Staying on his track as funnyman, Jason Lee is about to both star in and produce comedy flick "Krater" of which rights has preemptively obtained by Warner Bros. Pictures, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed.

Set in the late 1970s and early '80s, the story sees Lee become the leader of a rock band named Krater who struggles with massive success after hiring a new lead singer with hidden Broadway ambitions.

Production on the picture is expected to begin in May during Lee's hiatus from NBC's sitcom "My Name Is Earl" with J.D. Ryznar penning the script. Accompanied Lee in producer's seat is Scott M. Martin who previously served as an associate producer in "Almost Famous."
