Signing a pay-or-play deal with Columbia Pictures, Patrick Dempsey is about to topline the studio's new project of "Made of Honor", Variety has learned.

A male-driven romantic comedy, the flick sees Dempsey become a maid of honor of his dream girl in an attempt to win her heart. Adam Sztykiel originally penned the script before it gets a rewrite by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont with Aaron Kaplan, Tania Landau, Neal H. Moritz, and Sean Perrone producing.

Dempsey, best known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepherd in ABC's popular medical drama series "Grey's Anatomy", initially developed his acting career onstage for several years before venturing into Hollywood. He next can be seen playing opposite Hilary Swank in Paramount's dramatic feature "Freedom Writers" which will open in theaters on January 12, 2007.
