Following its successful attempt to acquire the rights to "Cobalt 60", Universal Pictures has appointed "Dawn of the Dead" helmer Zack Snyder to direct the project, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Apart from helming the movie, Snyder is also reportedly attached to seat as producer alongside Debby Snyder. No words yet on cast lineup, but it is revealed that a search for a writer is under way.

Based on the cult comic book of the same title, "Cobalt 60" takes place in a post-apocalyptic world full of mutants plus creatures and follows the masked titular hero as he carries out a quest to take revenge on the evil Strontium 90 who has murdered his parents.
