In the sun-drenched Tuscan countryside of 1348, a group of young nobles seeks refuge from the encroaching shadow of the Black Death in a lavish, isolated villa. This R-rated romantic adventure, directed by David Leland, follows the mischievous and amorous exploits of these youths as they attempt to outrun the plague with hedonistic abandon. Among them is the dashing Lorenzo, played by Hayden Christensen, whose pursuit of the beautiful but devout Pampinea, portrayed by Mischa Barton, becomes a central tale of desire and courtship. Their playful games of love and deception unfold alongside a motley crew including the roguish Christopher Egan, the sinister Tim Roth as a mercenary with his own agenda, and a host of others like Rupert Friend and Matthew Rhys. As their idyllic retreat becomes a crucible for passion, jealousy, and survival, the ever-present threat of the outside world forces each character to confront what they truly value.
