In the brutal, primal landscape of 11th-century Scandinavia, a mute warrior known only as One-Eye, portrayed with fierce intensity by Mads Mikkelsen, fights for survival as a captive used for blood sport. After a violent escape that leaves a trail of destruction, he is taken in by a band of Christian crusaders, including the skeptical leader played by Gary Lewis, who believe his savage strength is a divine omen. Driven by visions of a promised land, the group sets sail across a mist-shrouded ocean, leaving the familiar violence of their homeland behind. Their journey, however, leads them not to the riches of Jerusalem, but to a hostile, uncharted wilderness where the line between reality and hallucination begins to blur. As paranoia and starvation set in, the men must confront their own savage nature, and One-Eye, the silent engine of their fate, becomes the key to a terrifying and spiritual reckoning. Directed by Shane Stanley, Valhalla Rising is a stark, atmospheric action-adventure that blends visceral brutality with haunting, meditative imagery, exploring the thin line between faith, madness, and primal instinct.
