In the wake of World War I, a young German mail-order bride named Inge arrives in rural Minnesota with dreams of a new life, only to find her future hanging by a thread. Portrayed with quiet resilience by Elizabeth Reaser, she travels to meet her intended husband, Olaf, a stoic Norwegian farmer played by Tim Guinee. Their simple hopes for a future together are shattered when the local community, fueled by wartime prejudice and suspicion, refuses to accept their marriage. With the stern town minister John Heard leading the opposition and the kindly but conflicted lawyer Ned Beatty caught in the middle, Inge and Olaf are forced to live on his farm as outcasts, their love and commitment tested by isolation and the harsh landscape. Directed by Ali Selim, this tender and lyrical drama, produced by Alan Cumming who also appears in a supporting role, unfolds as a poignant testament to perseverance, the quiet strength of an immigrant spirit, and the slow, hard-won cultivation of both land and love against formidable odds.
