In the remote, windswept isolation of Iceland, a desperate American man named Marvin, played by Barak Hardley, arrives with a singular, peculiar goal: to learn magic. Directed by Brendan Walter, this genre-blending film weaves together dark comedy, psychological drama, and simmering thriller elements as Marvin seeks out a legendary, reclusive magician, portrayed by Magnus Jonsson, who is rumored to teach powerful and authentic spells. Marvin’s motivations are shrouded in personal turmoil, and his obsessive quest quickly strains his relationship with his pragmatic girlfriend, brought to life by Birna Run Eiriksdottir. As the lines between illusion and reality blur in the stark Icelandic landscape, Marvin is drawn into a bewildering world where every trick has a price and the greatest deception may be the one he plays on himself. The film crafts an atmosphere of eerie unease and dry humor, exploring the lengths to which a person will go to alter their fate and the unforeseen consequences of wielding forces they do not fully understand.
