In the darkly comedic drama Flower, Zoey Deutch delivers a captivating performance as Erica Vandross, a whip-smart and fiercely independent seventeen-year-old who uses her sharp wit and provocative demeanor to navigate a complicated home life. Living with her single mother Laurie, played by Kathryn Hahn, and her affable but often absent stepfather, Bob (portrayed by Adam Scott), Erica’s rebellious exterior masks a deep-seated vulnerability. When Bob’s troubled son, Luke (played by Joey Morgan), is released from a rehabilitation program and moves in, Erica’s carefully constructed world is disrupted. Driven by a fierce desire to protect her family and uncover a troubling secret, she enlists the help of her two best friends, Kala (Maya Eshet) and Lauren (Dylan Gelula), to launch a risky and morally ambiguous scheme. Directed by Max Winkler, the film balances sharp, often uncomfortable humor with a tense, coming-of-age narrative, exploring themes of loyalty, justice, and the lengths one will go to for those they love. As Erica’s plan spirals into unexpected territory, the film challenges audiences with its unflinching look at a young woman determined to right a perceived wrong.
