In Shatara Michelle Ford's haunting and lyrical drama, a group of young Black queer women and their friends navigate the precarious tightrope between their vibrant inner lives and the harsh realities of the world around them. As they forge deep bonds of friendship and explore their identities, their dreams for the future begin to collide with the persistent anxieties and systemic pressures of their present. The story follows the intertwined journeys of these characters, played by Denée Benton, Sasha Compère, and Dezi Bing, as they seek joy, connection, and purpose. Their shared sanctuary of creativity and mutual support is tested when each must confront a personal crossroads, forcing them to reconcile their aspirations with the compromises demanded of them. With an ensemble cast including Jasmin Savoy Brown, Charlie Barnett, and Molly Bernard, the film is a tender, melancholic, yet fiercely hopeful portrait of friendship, resilience, and the radical act of dreaming in uncertain times.
