In the desolate, rain-lashed aftermath of World War I, a young and idealistic weather official arrives on a remote, windswept island in the South Atlantic to begin a solitary year-long posting. His only companion is the lighthouse keeper, a gruff and paranoid man played by Ray Stevenson, who warns him of a terrifying nocturnal threat that emerges from the sea each night. As darkness falls, the island is besieged by strange, amphibious humanoid creatures, forcing the two men to barricade themselves inside the lighthouse in a desperate struggle for survival.
