Just as Franco Mujica is about the end his term as Governor, he is caught in a lie by his wife Mara who, knowing of Franco's aspirations, had him swear he wouldn't run for the Presidency. Mara had wished to get pregnant when he got elected and waited until the end of his Governorship. Now Franco is pressured to cancel a family trip to concentrate on his running.

Mara chastises both her husband and her brother, who happens to be Franco's main adviser. When the admonishing is interrupted by a phone call from the current President, new information forces Mara to consider participating. Mara's conditions are, among other things, that Tulio, her brother, would be replaced if they ever falter in the run since they don't have enough experience.

Despite both Franco and Tulio's resistance, Mara prevails. True to form, Tulio and Franco struggle to get noticed in the run and fall behind. Franco and Tulio regroup and gather the team to plan a strategy when they are sorely interrupted by a woman named Ilana, who claims to have been sent by Mara. Her proposal to come up with an immediate scandal to leak to the press is received with trepidation, but it becomes clear that Franco and Tulio have few other choices.

Within weeks, Franco starts making headlines due to the feeding of controlled scandals to the media. Franco's new face immediately connects with the people and Ilana's strategy pays off in gold. Once President Franco is confronted with the fact that winning is only the problem, the lies from the past will eventually come to haunt him for force him to reconsider what is really important in his life.
