In the gripping thriller Ashes, a man's desperate quest to reclaim his past hurtles him into a dangerous present. Jim Sturgess stars as James, a man released from prison with his memory in fragments, who becomes convinced his late father, a charismatic criminal played by Ray Winstone, left a hidden fortune. His obsessive search strains his relationship with his weary mother, portrayed by Lesley Manville, and his concerned girlfriend, played by Jodie Whittaker.
