<p>"Volver" is a meeting of "Mildred Pierce" and "Arsenic and Old Lace", combined with the surrealistic naturalism of my fourth film, "¿Qué he hecho yo para merecer esto!!" ("What have I done to Deserve This?"), that is, Madrid and its lively working-class neighbourhoods, where the immigrants from the various Spanish provinces share dreams, lives and fortune with a multitude of ethnic groups and other races. At the heart of this social framework, three generations of women survive wind, fire and even death, thanks to goodness, audacity and a limitless vitality.</p> <p>They are Raimunda (Pénelope Cruz), who is married to an unemployed labourer and has a teenage daughter (Yohana Cobo); Sole (Lola Duenas), her sister, who makes a living as a hairdresser; and the mother of both (Carmen Maura), who died in a fire along with her husband. This character appears first to her sister (Chus Lampreave) and then to Sole, although the people with whom she has some unresolved matters are Raimunda and her neighbour in the village, Agustina (Blanca Portillo).</p> <p>"Volver" is not a surrealistic comedy although it may seem so at times. The living and the dead coexist without any discord, causing situations that are either hilarious or filled with a deep, genuine emotion. It's a film about the culture of death in my native La Mancha. The people there practice it with an admirable naturalness. The way in which the dead continue to be present in their lives, the richness and humanity of their rites mean that the dead never die.</p> <p>"Volver" destroys all the clichés about "black" Spain and offers a Spain that is as real as it is the opposite. A Spain that is white, spontaneous, funny, intrepid, supportive and fair.</p>

<p>In the uproarious short comedy Vomit, a simple dinner party spirals into a symphony of gastrointestinal chaos. <p>Based on the autobiography Memories Before and After the Sound of Music by Agathe von Trapp, this unforgettable movie follows the von Trapp family's incredible journey from the perspective of Agathe, the eldest daughter. </p><p>As war encroached upon her family and friends, Agathe embarked on an adventure filled with remarkable twists and turns, joys and disappointments. But despite the struggles through the dark times, there was always the saving grace of music.</p>

Ophelia is a 20-year-old girl who lives with her mother and grew up without a father. She suspects that he is Tedesco, a German artist who has just returned to Brazil. Determined to find him, she sends a letter notifying him of her arrival and that she will swim to him from the Santos bridge. Upon learning of the imminent arrival, Tedesco asks Smutter, his great friend, to start following her closely.

Schmidt's parents Dave Lindgren and Michele Newman were high school sweethearts, and broke up months prior to Schmidt's birth. After being reconnected via Schmidt, Lindgren and Newman fell in love again and married with their firstborn son officiating the wedding.</p>

<p>Directed by [c=Brady Corbet], the dramatic film "Vox Lux" follows the tumultuous rise of a pop icon portrayed by [c=Natalie Portman]. The narrative, also written by Corbet, traces the journey from a traumatic childhood event that propels her into the spotlight to her complex adult life as a global superstar. Her career is managed by a dedicated but weary figure played by [c=Jude Law], while [c=Rooney Mara] appears as the singer's estranged sister. <p>"The Voyeur's Hotel" is a long and rather unsettling piece in which a Colorado man named Gerald Foos, a lifelong voyeur, opened a hotel primarily so he could watch guests having sex, through ceiling vents.</p><p> He fancied himself as an observer of human behavior, but he sometimes did more than observe. Among other things, he was complicit in a murder he caused when he flushed the drugs of a dealer down the toilet and that dealer blamed his girlfriend and strangled her.</p>
