Mike Thalassitis was an English-Cypriot footballer and television personality who captured public attention through his appearances on popular reality series before his life was tragically cut short. Born on 19 January 1993, Thalassitis first made his mark in the world of professional football, signing a two-year contract with Stevenage in May 2011 after joining the club's Centre of Excellence ahead of the 2010–11 season, just following the team's promotion to the Football League. His professional debut came in August 2011, and over the following seasons, he gained valuable experience through a series of loan spells at various clubs, including Conference South side Boreham Wood, Hayes & Yeading United, Cambridge United, and Bishop's Stortford. He spent the remainder of the 2012–13 season back at Boreham Wood for a second loan stint before joining Ebbsfleet United on a season-long loan ahead of the 2013–14 campaign.

In 2017, Thalassitis transitioned from the pitch to the small screen when he appeared on the third series of the ITV2 reality series Love Island. His time on the show introduced him to a broader audience and established him as a recognisable figure in British popular culture. Following his reality television debut, he decided to retire from professional football in December of that same year, fully embracing a new career path in the entertainment and media sphere. He subsequently joined the fourth series of the E4 dating programme Celebs Go Dating, which further cemented his status as a television personality and kept him in the public eye during 2018.

On 15 March 2019, he was found dead at a park in London at the age of just 26.
