Homeland is an American political thriller television series that premiered on Showtime on October 2, 2011. The series is based on the Israeli television series Prisoners of War, and was developed by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa. The show follows Carrie Mathison (Claire Danes), a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer who is assigned to protect Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis), a U.S. Marine who was held captive by al-Qaeda for eight years. The series has received critical acclaim, and has won numerous awards, including two Golden Globe Awards and three Primetime Emmy Awards.
