"The Real O'Neals" is an American sitcom television series created by David Windsor and Casey Johnson. The series premiered on ABC on March 2, 2016. On May 13, 2016, ABC renewed the series for a second season which premiered on October 11, 2016. The series follows the O'Neals, a Catholic family living in Chicago. The family is made up of Eileen (Martha Plimpton), Jimmy (Jay R. Ferguson), Kenny (Noah Galvin), and Shannon (Bebe Wood). Eileen is a devout Catholic who is struggling to come to terms with her husband's recent coming out as gay. Jimmy is a former police officer who is now a stay-at-home dad. Kenny is a gay teenager who is struggling to find his place in the world. Shannon is the youngest child and is a straight-A student.
In the second season premiere, "The Real O'Neals," the family is still adjusting to Jimmy's coming out. Kenny is struggling to come to terms with his sexuality and is bullied at school. Shannon is trying to find her place in the family and is struggling to fit in with her peers. Eileen is still struggling to come to terms with Jimmy's sexuality and is trying to find her place in the family.
