"Designated Survivor" is an American political drama television series created by David Guggenheim for ABC, based on the novel of the same name by Tom Clancy. Kiefer Sutherland plays Tom Kirkman, a low-level cabinet member who suddenly becomes the President of the United States after a catastrophic attack kills everyone ahead of him in the line of succession. The series follows Kirkman as he struggles to rebuild the country and lead it through a new era of uncertainty. In the first season, Kirkman must deal with the aftermath of the attack, including the investigation into who was responsible, and the ongoing threat of terrorism. The season also introduces the main characters of the series, including Kirkman's wife, Alex (Natascha McElhone), and his chief of staff, Aaron Shore (Adan Canto).
