Major Crimes is an American police procedural television series created by James Duff that premiered on August 13, 2012, on TNT. It is a spin-off of the long-running series The Closer, and follows the Major Crimes Division of the Los Angeles Police Department as they investigate high-profile crimes. The series stars Mary McDonnell as Deputy Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, who was the lead character in The Closer.
The fifth season of Major Crimes premiered on June 13, 2016. The season follows Johnson and her team as they investigate a series of murders that are linked to a drug cartel. The season also features the return of several characters from The Closer, including Captain Sharon Raydor (played by Kyra Sedgwick) and Lieutenant Mike Tao (played by Michael Paul Chan).
In the promo for the fifth season, Johnson and her team are shown investigating a murder. The victim is a young woman who was found dead in her apartment. Johnson and her team quickly realize that the murder is not a random act of violence, and they begin to investigate the victim's connections to the drug cartel. As the investigation progresses, Johnson and her team uncover a series of secrets and lies that threaten to tear the Major Crimes Division apart.
