The Luminaries is a historical drama television series based on the 2013 novel of the same name by Eleanor Catton. The series follows the story of Anna Wetherell (Eve Hewson), a young woman who arrives in New Zealand in the 1860s and becomes entangled in a love triangle with Emery Staines (Himesh Patel) and Crosbie Wells (Marton Csokas). The series premiered on TVNZ 1 in New Zealand on May 17, 2020, and on BBC Two in the United Kingdom on June 21, 2020. The first episode of the series, titled "Fingerprint," features a scene in which Anna is fingerprinted by the police.
