A disoriented man chases a bug crawling across the floor of a laboratory, steps outside, sees a carnosaur . . . Chomp!

Jim and Elisabeth wonder why researchers from Outpost 3 haven't been heard from in 72 hours. Taylor and Elisabeth will investigate this, leaving Lt. Washington in charge, and Elisabeth asks Jim to retrieve her wedding ring, which she removed before performing a surgery at the hospital.

Taylor, Elisabeth, and soldier Brady arrive at Outpost 3, where they find the power cables were chewed through by ovosaurs (they're attracted to the nickel inside them) and two men who've been strapped to gurneys - plus a woman who believes she's experiencing the Detroit food riots/blizzard of 2137.

A video log and notes by the now-missing outpost leader reveals that they're all suffering from memory loss that quickly causes people to become trapped in their past. Elisabeth believes a pathogen caused this. Taylor asks her to finish the outpost leader's work, noting that they can't return to Terra Nova because they're probably already infected.

As Jim retrieves Elisabeth's ring, Maddy brings Zoe - who's suffering from a cold - to the hospital. Meanwhile, Brady finds the outpost leader's body, and Elisabeth tells Jim what she knows via video feed, but when Jim reports that he caught Zoe's cold, she can't remember who Zoe is.

The next morning, Jim learns that Outpost 3 has been quarantined. Defying Washington's orders, he and scientist Malcolm - who gives Jim a root to chew on for his cold - apply gas masks and head for the outpost.

Meanwhile, Josh asks Skye if they should tell someone about the carvings they found by the waterfalls, but she doesn't know who and silences him with a kiss, which disturbs Josh because he's still in love with Kara. Skye offers to help get Kara to Terra Nova.

Jim and Malcolm arrive at Outpost 3 and discover that Brady and Taylor are nowhere in sight. As Jim answers Washington's call to Taylor, Elisabeth blasts Jim and Malcolm with a stun gun. When they remove the gas masks, she recognizes Malcolm as a college classmate - but not Jim.

Malcolm checks her notes and discovers the memory loss problem. Jim asks if Malcolm can find a cure. Meanwhile, Skye brings Josh to Tom, a wheeler-dealer who explains that he can send messages to 2149 without the portal being open, despite what Taylor claims, but getting people to Terra Nova is expensive. Tom also recognizes Josh as "the cop's son" and asks if he can trust Josh.

After reviewing the video logs, Elisabeth realizes that she's suffering from the memory loss pathogen, which begins three hours after exposure and renders people catatonic within 48 hours.

When ovosaurs chewing on cables cause another power outage, Jim decides to chase them away, finds Brady's been wounded, and gets a stun gun blast from Taylor, who now believes he's in Somalia in 2138 and unless he's reunited with his missing family, vows to murder everyone responsible.

Elisabeth discovers the problem isn't a pathogen, but a gene therapy experiment gone wrong. Malcolm, suffering from early memory loss, puts the moves on Elisabeth, which Jim interrupts, explaining that Taylor's been infected and is probably heading back to Terra Nova. Elisabeth wonders why Jim's still not infected.

As Jim and memory-losing Malcolm move the wounded Brady inside, an ovosaur enters through an open hatch. Jim hacks into the cables - the nickel's smell distracts the ovosaur - and K.O.'s the now-hysterical Malcolm.

Jim tells Elisabeth that she doesn't need Malcolm to find the answer. Elisabeth says if she knew who conducted the gene therapy experiment, she could determine why and what for - and could undo it. Jim says he'll use skills learned from his daughter, Maddy, to hack into the computer's personnel files.

En route to Terra Nova, Taylor doesn't believe that the dinosaurs he sees are real. Maddy and Reynolds then witness Taylor enter and overpower a guard.

Jim and Elisabeth discover outpost staffer Dr. Jocelyn carries the gene for the Alzheimer's-like Gorman's disease. Seeking a cure, he re-sequenced the gene that controls memory - but the gene blocked memories instead of opening them - and he used a virus as a delivery system, but it became contagious. A panicking Elisabeth rifles though names she's written on cards and realizes they're her family with Jim, who places their wedding ring on her finger, saying he'll never forget her.

Realizing Jim hasn't lost any memory, Elisabeth believes the answer lies in the root that Malcolm gave him.

Maddy and Reynolds tell Lt. Washington what they saw, but Taylor's already there and puts a knife to Reynolds' throat. When Washington tells Taylor his wife is long-dead, Taylor attempts to kill himself, but Washington blasts him with a stun gun.

Elisabeth discovers it's not the root, but the Jim's cold virus itself that's counteracting any infection, so Jim gives Elisabeth his cold virus by kissing her.

Soon, Elisabeth awakens Taylor, saying she's OK and he will be too. While Taylor praises Washington for shooting him, Jim and Elisabeth find Maddy and Reynolds hanging out at their home - and Zoe playing with dinosaur dolls.

Meanwhile, Tom trades the Sixers supplies for the wild sorghum he uses to make liquor, then he asks Mira to send a message to 2149: a young man wants to buy his girlfriend's way though the portal and he's new sheriff Jim Shannon's son. Mira, meanwhile, intends to use this favor to her advantage.
