Suits Episode 7.02 The Statue

Harvey wants to make a statement to the world, but his team keeps questioning his orders. Meanwhile, Mike's first pro bono case is nearly derailed by his own fraudulent past. It's all here in our guide to Suits episode 702, "The Statue."

Harvey Wants To Send A Message

Harvey wants to make a statement with his first big act as managing partner, so he sets his sights on reeling in a big fish: Pfizer. In order to do that, though, he'll have to drop Jessica's oldest client, Jim Reynolds. He'll also have to bring on his old friend Alex Williams, who is currently Pfizer's outside counsel. But Alex makes it clear that he won't be coming to the firm for anything less than name partnership.

Mike's First Pro Bono Case Hits A Snag

Mike takes the case of a grieving widower whose insurance provider is withholding payment due to the dubious claim that his recently deceased wife lied about being a smoker on her original application. Things gets complicated when opposing counsel threatens to use Mike's history as a fraud to turn the jury against him should the case go to trial. Mike asks Rachel to take over the case, but Harvey refuses to let him back out; if Mike lets someone use his past as a weapon against him once, he'll be on his heels for the rest of his career.

Harvey Meets Resistance

Harvey tries to push his Pfizer decision through, but Louis rankles at the idea of Harvey giving away a name partnership so easily and Donna thinks Harvey is moving too fast. Things get worse when Louis tries to poach Pfizer behind Harvey's back, giving Harvey no choice but to go to Jessica for the vote he needs to put his plan into action. But Jessica echoes Louis and Donna's sentiments, leading the former and future managing partners to butt heads and leaving Harvey feeling stifled by his own team.

Mike Fights Back

Mike and Rachel track down Holly Cromwell (the corporate spy whose career they kind of ruined during the Velocity Date Solutions case) and get her to dig up hard proof that the insurance company has a history of doing everything in its power to avoid paying claims. That's just the leverage Mike needs to hold the threat of a class action over opposing counsel's head. Mike lands a big fat settlement, AND gets the corporate attorney to speak favorably about Mike in the New York Times. Mike has decided to make sure that no one can hold his past over him again, and his first step is to change the narrative by letting the Times do a big piece on him.

Harvey Manages The Situation

When Katrina Bennet voices her concern that Donna's recent promotion may have the unwanted side effect of making Senior Partnership mean less, Harvey realizes he has to act. Harvey tells Alex that name partnership is off the table, but Alex agrees to join the firm anyway. Harvey also breaks the news to Donna that she can't be a senior partner, but Donna negotiates and lands the COO position instead -- which was apparently the position she had really been after the entire time! Harvey also mends fences with Louis, who was really just worried about being replaced as Harvey's friend. He also patches things up with Jessica, who admits that her own pride was wounded now that Harvey is calling shots without her.

Looks like Harvey is finally learning what being managing partner is all about!
