A man with a brace on his legs races through the woods. He's being hunted by men with guns. The running man is caught. A noose is strung up on a tree. The man is hanged as a young girl watches with the rest of the crowd. In the present day, Margaret Langston stands at the site of the lynching as if she's recalling an old memory. The next morning, she chats with a sad Lucille, who remembers how Jacob died 32 years ago this day. Margaret offers to cook a big family meal to turn this day of sadness into one of celebration.

Marty says the bones that were confiscated can still be identified. One of the deceased, who may also be among the first returned, walked with a limp. Fred lets his mother know that the bones may have been buried under the factory. Margaret claims she has no idea about this. She does, however, know that she wants Fred to show up at the family dinner. Jacob hopes that his Aunt Barbara can come, too. He wants to apologize for not saving her. When Lucille refuses to allow this, Jacob breaks a glass in anger.

Henry lets Barbara know that the returned have a remarkable power to heal old wounds. So he invites her to dinner. Jacob says he's sorry he couldn't save her. They share a hug. Both Lucille and Margaret are surprised by this unexpected guest. The dinner conversation gets a little awkward before small talk about reopening the factory saves things. Margaret makes a toast stating that it is her mission to bring the family back together. They are Langstons. They must always protect their own.

Lucille is reminded by Margaret that all their family problems began because of Barbara's actions. When Jacob is out of the room, a venomous verbal assault takes place. Lucille can't hold her tongue anymore. She unleashes her fury on Barbara, who flees the dinner party. Lucille seems quietly pleased. Outside the house, Barbara gives Fred a kiss of affection after asking him if he's the one who found her body. Maggie watches this heartbreaking moment from the porch.

As Rachael thanks Janine for staying at her home, she collapses. Maggie says it's just normal cramping, but there is something unusual about the baby. It's growing twice as fast as a normal fetus. This has Janine letting Tom know that Rachael can continue to stay at their place. The two women are bonding.

Marty lets Fred know that he has doubts that Arthur Holmes died in a fire as the guy had claimed. This has the sheriff wondering why his mother lied about knowing the man. Marty and Fred meet up at the old factory. They find Deputy Carl's brother, Mikey, there. He's another one of the returned. He's sick, just like all of the others currently filling up Maggie's office.

Margaret tells Jacob a bedtime story about a family who employed a village. All was well until the demons arrived. Then a brave few, including a little girl, banded together a way to drive them away. The demons kept coming back though. A way to banish the evil beings forever was finally discovered. Only the little girl, who was still alive, knows what the secret to this is. She knows she has to do whatever it takes to protect her family.
