It's six months later and Dani has been dealing with more changes than she ever could've imagined. Not only did she not reconcile with Matt, she has had to completely let him go ever since he found out Noelle was pregnant and they got married. Ray Jay has gone off to Paris with Juliette Pittman and has yet to return. Nico took a job with Mark Cuban in Dallas and has vanished into thin air as far as Dani can tell.
And the changes aren't about to end there. With Coach Purnell out of the picture and a new coach having taken over the Hawks who has a completely different point of view on how the whole therapist-patient confidentiality thing should work, Dani is fired as soon as Hawks training begins. Dani's unceremonious termination sends TK into a tailspin; it doesn't help that he and the new coach also don't see eye to eye.
So when Nico materializes and summons Dani to Manhattan for a mysterious meeting, Dani has no choice but to see what it's all about. She ends up at the offices of V3, a global leader in talent management, run by the charismatic, shrewd and ambitious Connor McClane. McClane has a rookie baseball player who's being scouted by the big leagues who has a debilitating fear of flying and McClane wants to hire Dani to help the kid before a tryout the following week. It turns out that Nico is not only back in New York, but also he's now working at V3 as their new head of "security." Even after she slaps him for letting her think he was probably dead, he's not willing to tell her anything else.
Dani now has a decision to make: no matter how pissed she is at Nico, the rookie needs her help, she's out of a job and McClane is dangling a generous offer in front of her to come on board as an employee of V3. McClane's right-hand man and V3 CFO, Troy Cutler, is clearly not a fan of Dani or her methods, so the job is hardly going to be a cakewalk. But considering her options, this just may be an offer she can't refuse.
