As Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura prepare for the examination, a Ninja with short bobbed hair and thick eyebrows named Rock Lee appears. Lee then proceeds to challenge Sasuke to a duel. Lee wants to fight Sasuke, who holds the power of the Uchiha tribe. Sasuke accepts Lee's challenge, but his opponent attacks with such quickness that he can only stay in defense. Sasuke uses his Sharingan to decipher what kind of technique Lee is using. But for some reason, he is unable to perceive the moves even, with his Sharingan. As Sasuke struggles with Lee's maneuvers, he at last realizes the opponent's strength lies in his Taijutsu ability.
