The Story

On the run, Ethan takes Sutton to the reservation where he grew up-the home of his father, Ben. They lend a hand on Ben's horse ranch while waiting for news from Phoenix, and Sutton does her best to mend Ben and Ethan's rocky relationship. Thanks to good intentions, Sutton comes back into Ethan's good graces and reminds him of the good times that they've shared.

Meanwhile, Emma struggles to keep up the charade when the police call her in for questioning because it was actually Sutton, who was with Ethan the night Derek was murdered. Her story holds up with the police, but the timing of her switch with Sutton gets her caught in a lie with her parents, who ground her.

Back at the school, Mads tells Emma that she can't stay mad at her, but when Emma gets mixed up about covering Mads during her date with Ryan, Mads thinks she's just playing another lying game. Emma confronts Ryan about Mads, but Emma has no idea that Sutton came on to him at the Black and White Ball. At Derek's funeral, Emma asks Alec about his relationship with Derek. Alec turns the conversation on Emma and tells her that he doesn't really think Ethan killed Derek in order to try and lure him back to Phoenix.

When Ethan questions his guilt about Derek's death, Sutton reminds him that he is innocent. When Sutton tries to prove that she can live the rustic life by riding a horse, it starts to run away, and Ethan saves her. As they head back to the house, Ethan and Sutton hide when they see two police officers asking Ben if he knows where they are. Ethan tells his father that he didn't murder anyone, but Ben doesn't believe him.

Laurel and Baz prepare for the concert by handing out fliers and planning the set list, which causes Justin to feel uneasy. Ted and Kristin spot Justin at Laurel's concert, and Ted approaches him, asking Justin to leave. During the show, Ryan tells Mads that Sutton came on to him at the ball, causing Mads tells Emma that they aren't friends anymore. Later, Alec and Rebecca spend a romantic night together. Rebecca confesses to Alec that the real reason she returned to town was for him.

Feeling there's no other way to get Mads back on her side, Emma decides to spill her biggest secret, confessing to Mads that she is actually Sutton's twin.
