In Tikrit, Iraq, a father demands his 12 year-old son not act like child anymore and be a man. He wants his son to kill a chicken, but the son refuses. The father is furious with him and says he'll stay outside until he does it. Then the boy's younger brother comes up beside him and coolly, calmly, grabs a chicken and easily breaks its neck. The vicious act had no effect on him. The father sees what happens and says to the younger brother, "Well done, Sayid."

WHOOSH to adult Sayid in the Dharma security station jail cell. Young Ben brings him another sandwich and a book, then asks if Richard sent him. He tells Sayid that four years ago he ran away into the jungle and Richard found him. He wanted to join them, but Richard said he had to be patient and wait. Young Ben tells Sayid that if he's patient, too, then Young Ben will help him.

WHOOSH to a Moscow apartment. A man runs away from Sayid, but Sayid kicks the door in and pursues him. The man runs to a safe and opens it, offering Sayid thousands of Euros to spare his life, but Sayid doesn't care. Two silenced shots ring out, slamming into the man's chest. Lest we've forgotten, Sayid is a cold-blooded killer. Sayid leaves and meets adult Ben along a side street, and Ben tells him they're done. Sayid has taken care of everyone who posed a threat to his friends. Ben wishes him well and walks away. Sayid is frustrated. That's it? Ben reminds him that Sayid didn't kill these people for him. Sayid asked for their names. Now there's no one else in Widmore's organization to go after. But what is Sayid supposed to do now? Ben says go live your life. Sayid is free.

WHOOSH back to the Dharma cell where Sayid is anything but free. Horace and Radzinsky question him, but Sayid won't talk. Horace realizes they're going to have to take it to the next level.

At Sawyer's house, Juliet watches Jack and Kate outside. She realizes Sawyer is standing there and can't hide what she's feeling. She knows their relationship is over. Everything is. Sawyer assures her he's got it all under control. Horace interrupts them and says the prisoner isn't talking, so he wants to take him to Oldham. Sawyer doesn't want that psychopath doing anything to Sayid and says he'll make him talk.

Sawyer goes to Sayid's cell and they finally get to talk. Sayid is disturbed that a 12 year-old Benjamin Linus brought him a sandwich. How can Sawyer live with him? Because he can. Now Sawyer is in a position to save Sayid -- and head-butts him. He says they have to make it look good to claim that Sayid "confessed." He proposes a story that Sayid should offer intel on the Others in exchange for permission to live with Dharma. But Sayid doesn't want that. He wants to be let go. Sawyer says he can't just let him go. These people trust him, and he's built a pretty good life here. If he let's Sayid go, then that all goes away. Sayid either has to join Dharma or he's on his own. Sayid weighs the decision and then says he's on own.

At the cafeteria, Hurley is settling into his new life nicely. He eats with Jack and Kate and then spills the beans that Sawyer and Juliet are a couple. Kate didn't know and asks Jack if he did. Jack says yeah.

At Sayid's cell, Roger Linus, Ben's father, enters to mop the area. Young Ben comes in again, and Roger yells at him for being there. Sayid sees how poorly Roger treats Ben, and sees how fearful Ben is of Roger. Sayid actually has sympathy for Ben.

WHOOSH to Santo Domingo where Sayid works in construction. John Locke found Sayid here, and now so does Ben. Sayid is shocked to see him. Ben tells him he's in danger. Locke was murdered, and they've found Hurley. Sayid asks how could this happen? He thought they were done. Hurley is an easy target, and Ben wants Sayid to take care of the man watching Hurley. Sayid asks why him? And Ben says because it's in his nature. He's a killer. Sayid becomes angry and tells Ben to leave.

WHOOSH to Sawyer, Horace, Radzinsky and Phil as they take Sayid out to Oldham, who lives in the jungle in a teepee. Oldham is a chemist and seems a little off. He tells them to put Sayid in restraints, and then Oldham puts some drops of liquid on a sugar cube and forces Sayid to eat it. Oldham explains it'll help Sayid tell them the truth, and suddenly Sawyer looks worried.

WHOOSH to the Long Beach marina where Ben tries to convince Sayid, Kate and Sun he knows someone who can tell them how to go back to the island. Sayid says he wants no part of it and leaves. He goes to an upscale bar and meets an attractive woman. She's charming and they flirt. Her name is Ilana, and they end up in Sayid's hotel room making out. But suddenly, Ilana kicks Sayid in the face and grabs a gun from her purse -- holds Sayid at gunpoint. She explains she was hired by Peter Avellino's family, whom he killed on the golf course in Seychelles, to bring Sayid to Guam and answer for what he's done.

WHOOSH to the jungle as the drug takes hold, and Sayid answers their questions truthfully. His name is Sayid Jarrah, he was in cuffs because he's a bad man but he's not a hostile. He returned to the island on a plane, Ajira flight 316. He says he was on the island before and then he left. Ask Sawyer, he knows. The Dharma guys have no idea who "Sawyer" is. Sayid says he knows about the Flame station, the Pearl and the Swan. Then he says they're all going to die. He knows because he's from the future.

Sawyer is relieved because the Dharma guys don't buy Sayid's story. Oldham thinks he used too much of the drug. But Horace is more grave. He orders Sayid locked up and calls a meeting because now they have to decide what to do with him.

At Horace's meeting, Radzinsky suggest they kill Sayid because he's a spy. Sawyer tries to calm the discussion but it doesn't work. Radzinsky won't hear of anything else but killing Sayid, and Horace says he'll think about it. But Radzinsky threatens to call Ann Arbor because then they'll make the decision for Horace. Amy speaks up and agrees with Radzinsky. They need to think about the children in Dharma. How can anyone feel safe with Sayid around? They put it to a vote. Horace pressures Sawyer to make it unanimous, and Sawyer realizes he's got no choice. He raises his hand.

Sawyer gives Sayid the bad news and offers to make it look like Sayid overpowered him so he can escape. Sayid says no, he's going to stay. Sawyer leaves and takes his anger out on Kate. He wants to know why she came back. She's about to open up and tell him when a flaming Dharma bus rolls by them and slams into a house, which immediately catches fire. Sawyer helps organize the bucket lines to put the fire out.

WHOOSH to the airport as Sayid sees Jack. Then he notices Kate, Sun, Hurley on the plane... and finally Benjamin Linus walks on. He asks Ilana if she's working for Ben, but she doesn't know who he is. Sayid explains that Ben is a liar and a manipulator. A ruthless man who allowed his own daughter to be murdered to save himself. A monster responsible for a genocide. Ilana asks why she would work for someone like that, and Sayid says he did.

WHOOSH back to the security station where young Ben uses the flaming bus and fire as a diversion to break Sayid out. He has his dad's janitorial keys, and he uses them to unlock Sayid's cell. They escape into the jungle, but near a dirt road they are stopped by Jin. Over his walkie Phil puts out an alert that the prisoner escaped. Sayid explains that Sawyer let him go. Jin wants to help, but Sayid say he has to keep moving. Sayid knocks Jin unconscious and takes his gun. He looks over at young Ben and realizes what he has to do. Sayid tells young Ben that he was right about him. He is a killer. Young Ben doesn't understand what Sayid is saying -- but then BLAM! Sayid shoots young Ben in the chest.

BOOM.
