At the well in the jungle, Sawyer watches Locke's descent. Then Sawyer hears the hum start up, and he knows a flash is coming. He grabs the rope and yells for Locke to hold on -- and FAAZAAM! The flash resolves, but the well isn't there anymore. The rope disappears directly into the ground. Sawyer frantically digs around the rope, but Juliet stops him and says they can't help him. Wherever John went, he's gone. They're in a time before the well was built. Miles says way before, and points to the tree line. At the top of the trees in the distance they can see the back of an ancient, giant statue. Long hair flows over broad shoulders. And even though we don't see them, we get the feeling that if we were to see this statue's feet, they might just have four toes.

There's no time to appreciate it because suddenly the rumbling hum starts again. But this time it's different. Deeper, more violent. The blinding glare of white light washes over them, the ground drops beneath them and FAAAAA-ZAAAAM!

The flash subsides, and our group has been knocked on their backs. That one was different, more like an earthquake. Sawyer looks over and sees the well is back. He leaps up, grabs the rope, and jumps in to rescue Locke -- but he discovers the well has been filled in with rocks. Then Juliet realizes her headache is gone. Miles says his is gone, too, and his nose isn't bleeding. They think it's over, that Locke did it. Sawyer says now they wait for him to come back. Juliet asks for how long? As long as it takes...

Three years later...

We start in a room with old computer equipment. A man walks in, turns on a stereo, a '70s song plays, and he begins dancing with a woman. He's wearing a Dharma jumpsuit. A second man, Phil, comes in and chastises the couple. Phil warns them that they're on the clock, and they better hope LaFleur doesn't find out. Then the woman notices something on one of the monitor screens. A man is out by the pylons. It's Horace Goodspeed, and he's lighting dynamite and blowing up trees! Jerry tells the woman to split, and he and Phil decide what to do next. The only answer is waking up LaFleur. They go to his house, knock, and LaFleur answers the door -- it's Sawyer! He grabs his jumpsuit, which reads "LaFleur -- Head of Security" and leaves with Phil and Jerry.

Sawyer picks up Miles, who is also on the security team, and they drive out in a Dharma van to get Horace. They find him passed out and take him back home. Amy, his partner who is very pregnant, directs Sawyer to put Horace on the couch. Amy explains they had a fight about Paul when -- uhhh! Amy is hit with contractions and she realizes the baby is coming.

Three years earlier...

Sawyer, Juliet, Jin and Miles find Faraday in the jungle mumbling to himself. Faraday tells them Charlotte died and in the last flash her body disappeared. She moved on and they stayed. They decide to head back to their beach camp. As they're walking through the jungle -- BAM! A gunshot rings out. They follow the sound to a clearing and see two Others dressed in ratty garb standing over a man and woman. Except the man is dead, and one of the Others forces a bag over the woman's head. Miles doesn't want to get involved, but Faraday says it doesn't matter what they do. What happened, happened.

Sawyer decides to help. Juliet has his back. They sneak out and come up behind the Others. He orders them to put down their guns, but one turns to shoot Sawyer! The guy goes down, and Sawyer realizes Juliet shot and killed the Other. Sawyer turns and shoots the second Other. He crosses to the woman and removes the bag from her head. She's scared and crying. She asks who they are. Sawyer tells her that their ship wrecked here on the way to Tahiti. Then he says they have to get out of there fast. The Others had a walkie, and they might've put out a call for help. But the woman, Amy, says they have to bury them. If the bodies are found, the truce is broken. Plus, they have to take Paul back. He was her husband. Sawyer agrees to help.

After they're done, Amy leads the way back to the Dharma barracks. Miles is worried if they can convince the Dharma people that they were in a boat wreck, but Sawyer says they can -- he's a professional. He used to lie for a living. Suddenly, Juliet shouts out for Faraday to stop. They're at the pylons, and Faraday was about to walk right through them. Before thinking, Juliet tells Amy to turn them off. Amy is suspicious. Juliet tries to explain that looks like some sort of sonic fence or something. Sawyer points out that they just saved Amy's life and hid those bodies so she should trust them. Amy turns off the fence, but as they walk through, they all drop like dominos. They're out cold. Amy then pulls out ear plugs and we realize she tricked them -- she didn't turn the fence off.

Three years later...

Sawyer helps the pregnant Amy to the infirmary, but the doctor there says Amy needs a Cesarean and he doesn't know how to perform that operation. He's an internist, not an obstetrician. Sawyer knows where to find an obstetrician. He goes to the motor pool and finds Juliet welding part of an undercarriage. Sawyer wants Juliet's help, but Juliet says it breaks their agreement. Every time she tried to help a woman on the island give birth, the woman died. Sawyer says maybe whatever made that happen hasn't happened yet. Juliet's got to try. She's the only one who can.

Juliet goes to the infirmary and takes over. Outside, Sawyer waits as Jin walks up and reports in that they finished grid 133 today and no sign of their people. Sawyer tells him to start grid 134 tomorrow. Jin asks how long they're going to look, and Sawyer says as long as it takes. Juliet comes out and she's crying. Sawyer's concerned and asks what happened. Juliet says Amy and the baby are fine. She had a little boy.

Three years earlier...

After being zapped by the sonic fence, Sawyer comes to in the rec room, and Horace Goodspeed is there waiting. Sawyer asks about his group and why he's being questioned. Horace explains they have certain defense protocols because there are hostile indigenous people on the island. Sawyer says his name is Jim LaFleur and tells him the boat wreck lie. They were on a salvage vessel looking for a famous lost wreck: an old slave ship called the Black Rock. They got caught in a storm and wrecked on the island. After they washed ashore, they went into the jungle looking for their missing crew. Horace tells Sawyer that they have a submarine leaving the next morning. Sawyer and his friends will be on it, and they'll be dropped off in Tahiti. Sawyer wants a week or two to find his missing crew, but Horace says no. If they turn up, he'll send them along. Their rules are the only people who can stay in the facility are Dharma Initiative members, and don't take this the wrong way but Sawyer is just not Dharma material.

Jin, Juliet, Miles and Faraday sit outside by the swings. Juliet points out that her house was just over there. She lived there when the Others took over the barracks. Jin asks if there will be any more flashes, and Faraday says no, no more flashes. The record is spinning again, they're just on the wrong song. Then Faraday sees a woman with red hair walking in the distance... and with her is a little girl with long red hair. Faraday mutters to himself, "Charlotte."

Sawyer and Horace cross over to them and explain they'll be leaving in the morning -- when an alarm sounds! Dharma members panic and race inside their houses. Phil hustles Sawyer's group inside the nearest house. Out the window they see Richard Alpert walking into the compound. He approaches Horace and says their truce has been broken. Alpert wants to know where his two men are. From inside the house, Sawyer watches Horace and Alpert argue. Horace comes inside and is ready to start a war with the Hostiles, but Sawyer says let him talk to Alpert.

Sawyer goes outside and tells Alpert he is the one who killed the men. He explains what happened, that he gave them a chance to lay down their weapons and walk away, but they took a shot at him and he defended himself. The Dharma Initiative isn't his people, so their truce hasn't been broken. Alpert wants to know who he is, and Sawyer simply asks if they buried "Jughead," the hydrogen bomb. Alpert is intrigued and asks how Sawyer knows about that. Sawyer says the same way he knows that 20 years ago John Locke came into their camp, said he's their leader and then disappeared. Sawyer is there waiting for John Locke to come back. Alpert says no matter who they are, two of his men are dead and there needs to be some kind of justice.

Sawyer and Horace go to Amy and tell that LaFleur worked out the agreement with the Hostiles. He told them where they buried the bodies of the two men, but they also have to give them the body of Paul. Amy is emotional and says Paul would do it to keep them safe, so she agrees. But before she lets them take his body, Amy removes an Egyptian ankh from around Paul's neck. Horace tells Sawyer that the sub is coming back in two weeks. They can stay that long and look for their crew.

Sawyer tells Juliet he bought them two weeks, but Juliet wants to leave. She's been trying to get off the island for over three years and this is her chance. But Sawyer is hurt -- she's going to leave him? Who'll have his back? Juliet is charmed and says okay. He has two weeks.

Three years later...

Sawyer walks to his house. He stops and picks a flower and takes it to... Juliet, who is fixing dinner. He tells her she was amazing today, and Juliet thanks him for believing in her. She puts her arms around his neck, and they kiss. She tells him she loves him, and Sawyer says he loves her, too.

Horace wakes up with a hangover, and Sawyer tells him Amy had the baby. Horace explains that he found Paul's Egyptian ankh in the back of drawer. He got upset that Amy kept it all this time and wonders if three years is enough to get over someone. Sawyer tells him that he had a thing for a woman once but it didn't work out. He wondered if he would ever stop thinking about her. Caring about her. But now he can barely remember her face. She's gone, and she's never coming back. Is three years long enough to get over somebody? Absolutely.

The next morning, Sawyer and Juliet are woken up by their phone ringing. Jin is on the other end, and Sawyer is shocked to hear what Jin reports and tells him not to bring them in, to meet in the North Valley. Sawyer rushes out, not telling Juliet what it's about, and drives out to the meeting point. Jin drives up in the Dharma van and stops... and out steps Hurley. Then Jack. And the last person out is Kate. She sees him and smiles. Sawyer is amazed -- BOOM.
