On Penny's boat after their rescue, Kate tells Jack she's thought of a way to explain Aaron when they get back to civilization. She wants to lie and say she had him. They're Aaron's family now, and she won't give him to strangers. She's not going to lose Aaron like they did Michael, Jin and Sawyer. Jack agrees as long as she'll back him up when he tries to convince everyone they have to lie to protect the people they left behind. Kate says she's always been with him.

WHOOSH to Sun's hotel room as Kate dresses in one of Sun's business suits and explains to Aaron she has an errand to run but she'll be back soon. As Kate leaves, a package is delivered to Sun. It's surveillance photos of Ben and Jack and what appears to be a box of candy. But underneath the first layer of candy is a hidden gun. That's right -- Sun told Charles Widmore she wants Benjamin Linus dead, and it seems he is helping her get the job done.

On the island, Sawyer, Locke, Juliet, Miles and Faraday anxiously stand over Charlotte's unconscious body. Charlotte had a seizure after the last flash, and she's been out for ten minutes. Faraday admits he knew this type of thing might happen with the island flashes. He thinks it's neurological, that their internal clocks are thrown off by the flashes. Juliet realizes there's more to it than that and asks why it isn't happening to the rest of them. Faraday doesn't know. Charlotte comes to and says she's a bit dizzy but all right.

Locke wants to go back to the Orchid station. He thinks everything is happening because the others left. He wants to use the Orchid to leave the island and bring them all back. Sawyer isn't sure he trusts Locke or the plan but reluctantly agrees to go.

WHOOSH to downtown Los Angeles where Kate talks to Dan Norton and offers him a deal: she'll agree to give the blood samples if she can talk to his client. Norton refuses. He reminds Kate that they could send the sheriff over but his client wants the exchange of custody handled quietly. Kate is shocked. Norton tells her to prepare herself because she is going to lose the boy.

At St. Sebastian Hospital, Sayid is quickly recovering from being knocked out. He wants to leave to protect Hurley. Jack says no, Sayid can't leave and Ben won't hurt Hurley. Ben is on their side. Sayid tells Jack that Ben is on no one's side but his own.

Jack walks into the hallway to talk the to hospital administration and gets a phone from Hurley asking about Sayid. Jack tells him Sayid is okay. Hurley says he's in Los Angeles County lockup and that he's safe. Ben can't get to him now, and Hurley hangs up before Jack can stop him. Suddenly, Ben turns the corner. Jack and Ben are surprised to see each other, and Ben asks how's Sayid?

While Sayid waits for Jack, a male nurse brings Sayid's medication in. Sayid is skeptical. As the guy whips around holding a tranquilizer dart gun and fires it twice at Sayid. But Sayid has rolled out of bed and the darts shoot into the empty pillow. Sayid rushes the guy and they fight. Sayid twists the I.V. tubing around the guy's neck and the guy tells him there's an address in his pocket. Sayid grabs the tranquilizer gun and shoots the guy twice. He's out.

Sayid fishes the paper out of the guy's pocket. Jack and Ben walk in and see the chaos, and Sayid asks if they know who lives at the address. Jack reacts -- it's Kate's address. Jack calls Kate and tells her to get Aaron and leave. He'll explain later. Kate tells him they're okay. She's downtown at Wilshire and Olive. Jack says he's on his way.

WHOOSH to the island at night as our group treks to the Orchid station. Then BAM! They see a white pillar of light shoot up through the jungle. Locke knows what it is and tells them they should stay clear of it. They head off in a different direction. Faraday checks in with Charlotte, and she says she's fine. Miles wipes his face, and sees blood on his hand. Juliet asks if he's okay, and he hides it.

Suddenly, they hear a woman scream. Sawyer unslings his rifle and goes to investigate. He creeps through the jungle and sees two women in a small clearing. As he gets closer he realizes -- it's Kate and pregnant Claire, and Kate is helping Claire deliver her baby. And as mind boggling as it is, he can't help being moved at seeing Kate again. He watches as Claire gives birth to Aaron, and then hears the familiar rumbling of a flash coming and --

FAAZAAM! The flash washes over him. Now he's in the same patch of jungle but in bright daylight. Claire is gone. Aaron is gone. But most importantly Kate is gone. Sawyer is devastated. Locke comes up behind Sawyer and asks what it was. Sawyer says it doesn't matter, it's gone now. They continue on towards the Orchid station.

As they trek, Locke tells Sawyer he knew what the light meant. It was the night Boone died and he was banging on the hatch. Desmond heard him and turned on the powerful spotlight he had in the Swan station. Sawyer wonders why Locke wanted to steer clear of it then, why he wouldn't want to go back, warn himself to do things differently and save himself a world of pain. Locke tells him he needed that pain to get where he is now.

Miles tells Faraday he had a nose bleed. He wants to know why him and Charlotte? Faraday guesses it has to do with their time spent on the island. Miles says Sawyer's group has been there for months but he's only been there for two weeks. Faraday asks him if he's sure about that.

They arrive at their beach camp, but it's isn't what it used to be. It looks raided, destroyed and abandoned. No one is there. Faraday points out that the Zodiac raft is gone. Miles guesses the survivors took it to get away from whomever arrived in the outriggers that are now parked on the beach. They inspect the two well-worn wooden outriggers and find a water bottle with an Ajira Airways label on it. Locke suggests they take one of the outriggers and paddle to the Orchid station.

They get out to the open ocean when Juliet notices that Sawyer is still thinking about what he saw in the jungle. She asks him if he's okay. Sawyer confesses to her that he saw Kate back in the jungle delivering Claire's baby. Juliet says that was two months ago when BANG! BANG! A group of people are in the second outrigger behind them shooting at them! Locke yells at them to move, and they paddle faster. Suddenly, a flash overtakes them, this time much to their gratitude -- FAAZAAM! It's now night and they're smack dab in the middle of a storm. Locke tells them to head for the shore.

WHOOSH to downtown LA. Jack finds Kate and they talk. She explains about the lawyer wanting a blood sample from her and Aaron, that someone knows they're lying, and that someone is going to take Aaron away from her. She's going to follow the lawyer to find out who his client is. Norton drives out. Jack jumps into the car, and Kate takes off.

They follow him to a motel and watch which room Norton goes to. And who opens the door shocks Kate and Jack -- it's Carole, Claire's mother. Kate realizes it's Carole who knows about Aaron. Jack offers to go talk to her. Maybe he can change her mind. It's pouring rain as Jack races across the parking lot up to the motel room and knocks. Carole recognizes him and lets him in. He explains that everything he and Kate did has been for Aaron. But Carole is confused. She doesn't know who Aaron is. Jack runs back to Kate's car and tells her that Carole is there to settle the lawsuit about Claire's death with the airline. Kate asks then who is it that wants to take Aaron away?

Sayid drives Ben's van to a secret meeting, and Ben indicates where Sayid should turn. They pull into a parking structure. Dan Norton pulls up and hands Ben a file on Hurley. He explains that the evidence doesn't connect Hurley to any of the killings. He'll be free in the morning after the preliminary hearing. Ben thanks him and then Norton leaves. Sayid asks who Norton is, and Ben says my lawyer.

WHOOSH to the island as Sawyer's group makes it to the shore... and Juliet gets a bloody nose. Sawyer is concerned -- they both know what this means. Charlotte suddenly shouts out. There's wreckage washed ashore by the storm. Locke turns over a piece of the wreckage, which has the name "BĂ©sixdouze" written on it. He asks if anybody speaks French.

Way out in the dark and choppy ocean, a life raft with four men and two women tosses in the waves. They argue in French with each other and we hear some familiar names, like Robert, Brennan and Montand. One of the women spots someone floating in the ocean. It's a man, and he's clinging to a large piece of wreckage. They paddle over to him and pull him on board. We recognize him immediately -- it's Jin!

Jack and Kate meet Sayid and Ben in a marina parking lot. Kate can't believe that Jack is working with Ben, but Jack tries to explain that Ben is there to help them. Kate suddenly realizes -- it's Ben who's trying to take Aaron away from her. Ben admits it's true. Kate tells him to leave her and her son alone! But with simple clarity, Ben says Aaron is not her son. Kate is caught by the truth behind those words.

Across the way, Sun is parked in the marina and watches the group from afar. Aaron is with her, asleep in his car seat in the back. She grabs the gun, and her expression hardens as she looks out at Ben and reaches for the door handle.

WHOOSH to the island where Jin finally comes to. He's sunburned, his lips chapped and he's dehydrated. Groggily, he looks up at the French team who rescued him. A woman asks in French if he's okay, but Jin says in English he doesn't understand. She asks if he speaks English, and he says a little. He tries to explain that he was on a boat that sank. They figure it must've been caught in the same storm. Jin doesn't know how long he was in the ocean, and Montand is impatient with him. The woman takes off her coat and Jin sees that she is pregnant. She hands him some water and introduces herself -- she's Danielle Rousseau.
