Hell's Kitchen Episode 10.12 9 Chefs Compete, Part 1 of 2

As the sun rises on a new day, the nine remaining chefs are more anxious than ever. However, Chef Ramsay has a plan to break the tension: a wing-eating competition. He asks for two volunteers from each team. Barbie and Tiffany step up for the Red Team, while Brian and Justin agree to play for the Blue Team. He then introduces a fifth player: World champion competitive eater Joey Chestnut.

Chef Ramsay explains that whoever eats 60 wings first wins $500. Although Brian does an admirable job, Joey Chestnut clears his plate first and takes the prize. After the fun is over, Chef Ramsay announces the serious challenge of the morning: the Hell's Kitchen Blind Taste Test. This is the one challenge that has been on every season of the show, and not once has any competitor achieved a perfect score.

Since the Red Team has an extra member, Kimmie volunteers to sit out. Christina goes head-to-head with Brian in an attempt to identify four different foods. They both correctly identify the beets and pineapple but miss the shallot. Christina also does not identify the turkey. The Red Team gets two points, and the Blue Team earns three.

Barbie and Robyn are up next. Barbie is able to only identify one of the four ingredients, while Robyn misses all four. The score is tied.

Next, Clemenza and Tiffany hope to take the lead for their teams. Clemenza fails to name any of the four ingredients, but Tiffany is able to pick up one more point by naming the walnuts. The Red Team takes the lead.

Dana and Justin are the last pair to take the test. Justin correctly names scallops, a food the competitors have prepared at every dinner service so far, but Dana misses it, leaving the score tied again. They both get the fig and the radish, but Dana cannot distinguish the sunchoke. When Justin is able to get it right, he not only wins the challenge for the Blue Team, but he is also the first competitor in the history of Hell's Kitchen to earn a perfect score on the Blind Taste Test.

For their reward, the Blue Team is treated to a trip to a water park where they have the whole place to themselves. The Red Team stays back and takes all the deliveries for the day, as trucks pull into the kitchen. The chefs must haul hundreds of boxes and restock both kitchens. Tempers explode between Kimmie and Barbie during this day of truly exhausting hard labor.

After a long day for both teams, they've settled into the dorms to rest when another delivery interrupts their relaxation. In the small box they receive is a DVD player with a video message from Chef Ramsay. He tells them that tomorrow night's dinner service is a Red versus Blue menu. The teams now have one hour to produce a stunning menu with three appetizers, three entrees, and three desserts.

The Red Team easily decide on their items, but Kimmie's fellow team members never select any of the suggestions that she makes. They finally agree to make her barbecue sauce, provided they can call it something more elegant.

The Blue Team has a more difficult time agreeing on menu items. Justin and Brian take over the menu and put down every dish Clemenza and Robyn throw in the mix.

The next day the chefs will only have a few hours to prepare the nine new dishes on which they decided. In the Red Kitchen, Kimmie struggles with how to make her sauce, the one item she suggested that made it to the menu. She relies on her teammates to tell her what to do and finally gets it right.

In the Blue Kitchen, Clemenza spills sauce all over the front of his coat, making a mess of himself. This is the one thing Chef Ramsay has criticized him for the most. Clemenza takes time off to wash his jacket in the sink, leaving his team shorthanded. While Clemenza cleans his jacket, in the Red Kitchen Barbie has spent two hours cleaning the mussels.

As Barbie stops for a smoke break, Christina takes over cleaning the mussels, and the Red Team seems to have sped up their prep work. In the Blue Kitchen, however, one chef is still missing, and his teammates aren't pleased. When a clean and tidy Clemenza arrives back in the Blue Kitchen, they can finally focus on finishing their dishes for Chef Ramsay to taste. Except for Tiffany's potatoes, the Red Team is almost ready for their inspection.

There's only half an hour left until dinner service begins. Before the doors to Hell's Kitchen can open Chef Ramsay must approve every dish that the teams will serve. Reviewing the Red Team's efforts, he says that the mussels look like they have washed up in a dishwasher and the beet salad tastes like dirt. But he does like the flatbread, the halibut, and Kimmie's marinated rib-eye. The Red Team quickly makes some adjustments to the menu before the start of dinner service.

Now it's the Blue Team's turn to see if their menu meets Chef Ramsay's approval. The chef criticizes Robyn's crab salad, saying that it looks like it's from the '80s, a warning Brian had already given her. Chef Ramsay is also unhappy with several of the other dishes they present, including Clemenza's fish, in which he finds bones. Chef Ramsay threatens to immediately throw Clemenza out of the competition. We will need to wait until the next episode of "Hell's Kitchen" to find out Clemenza's fate.
