The team finds pro basketball phenomenon Quinlan Reed murdered and suspects his trainer Martin, an ex-convict, may be involved. Pictures of Quinlan's bruising reveal the mark of a championship ring emblem of the high school Martin attended, but Owen then stumbles across a picture of Quinlan's father Darrell wearing the same ring. Owen and Clark question Quinlan's mother who affirms their research that Darrell served as his son's manager but was recently fired. Tired of being viewed as a business deal, Quinlan took an offer to play in Miami to get away from his father. Darrell claims that Martin admitted to the murder, but interrogating them both leads to the discovery that Darrell had tried paying Martin off to take the fall. Martin agreed to the deal in hopes that the money would help his own family. Darrell confesses that he inadvertently killed Quinlan while the two were fighting. Meanwhile, McKenzie learns that Arroyo lied to her about leaving his wife and threatens to end their partnership. Clark discovers that Holbrook is involved in an underhanded business deal and Owen leverages the information against him in order to stop Holbrook from interfering in their cases. Nora is revealed to be in contact with Clark's father and is unsuccessful in persuading Clark to let him back into his and Agnes' lives.
