Candace finds an old case online and asks Detective Russell to give her the file. A man's body was found near a campground that she used to go to as a child. The place holds many special memories for Candace though we're pretty sure solving the murder of a John Doe never made the list of family activities.

The victim died from head trauma and was wearing a shirt featuring comic book characters. He was found when a stray dog led some swimmers to his body. A microchip ID tag reveals that the dog belongs to Michael Axton, who is very much alive. He says he lost his dog, Katie, up in the woods awhile ago and eventually gave up the search. Michael doesn't want the dog back, as he's in the middle of a divorce.

Walter and Lindsey discover that the victim's t-shirt was designed for a comic book convention in San Francisco. They cross-reference a list of convention volunteers with a list of people who rent a cabin at the campground and find a match: Jake Lucas.

Jake's most recent address is listed as the home of John Lucas, who says his brother, Jake, is alive and in India. He got an email from him just this morning. Jake's sister, Becky, confirms that Jake has been emailing her, too. They find out Jake was adopted. He has a Peter Pan complex and often disappears for chunks of time.

Jake Lucas created the Katie application, a social networking program that sends updates to your friends, creating a picture of where you are and what you are doing. He developed the program with three old high school friends: Victor Gupta, Layla Demchak and the previously seen dog owner, Michael Axton. They sold their company for a fortune. Michael says that Jake left his dog in his care when he went off on a trip to India. The divorce he mentioned before comes from his marriage to Layla.

The emails supposedly being sent by Jake actually emanated from the south side of Chicago. They were sent from an account owned by John Lucas. John claims to be clueless about his brother's success, but Becky knew about his windfall. She says he told him about the buyout offer and that he didn't want to sell. If that's true, we're thinking Jake's three high school chums have a pretty good motive for removing him from their equation.

But when Alex meets with Victor Gupta, he says Jake had invited them all up to the cabin to make.

sure everyone was on board with the sale. Lindsey and Candace meet up with Layla, who confirms that everyone felt it was time to move on. Lindsey sees a bottle of booze in Layla's desk drawer and believes she may be a functioning alcoholic.

Walter tails Victor Gupta to a restaurant where he meets with Layla and Michael. Against Detective Russell's orders, Walter attempts to eavesdrop on their conversation by sliding his cell phone under their table. Much to our surprise, this trick actually works! Smooth move, Walter. Alex and Russell listen in to discover that this group set up Jake's brother John with those fake emails.

Figuring Layla would be the easiest to crack, the team pulls a trick to have her arrested on a DUI charge. After a few hours of drying out, Layla can no longer live with the guilt of what went down in the woods. Jake didn't want to sell the company. The money wasn't important to him. His friendship to Victor, Michael and Layla was. He didn't want anything to break them up, including the fact that Layla was in love with him. Jake couldn't betray Michael. He argued with Layla. She pushed and accidentally killed him when his head hit heavy object.

The three friends realized that if anyone knew that Jake changed his mind about the multimillion dollar offer for their company, no one would believe that his death was an accident. They went through with the sale and made it look like nothing ever happened. But the truth would eventually come out thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers at the Forgotten Network.
