ER Episode 13.03 Somebody to Love

Gates begin his shift as an intern in the ER. His former co-worker from when he was an EMT rushed in a patient. He gave Gates attitude and then later screamed at Gates for the beating Gates gave outside the bar where Neela was getting harassed. Because of Gates actions, his former co-worker was being punished. Gates felt bad, but then embarrassed himself by slipping and falling face first in the middle of the ER.

Sam wanted to apologize to Kovac about all the actions that took place on the day of the shootings. Kovac stopped her and credited her for saving his life. If it wasn't for her, Steve or one of his accomplices might have killed him. Kovak's main concern was Sam's well-being.

An older patient came into the ER complaining of chest pains. Later on, his lover, Beckett came by looking for him. Once Gates explained that Jim was going to need dialysis for his kidney, he wanted Beckett to call his sister and nephew and have them visit. Beckett informed Gates that once Jim came out of the closet to his family, he also never talked to his family again. Beckett agreed to make the call.

Pratt was becoming more and more aggravated with his intern, Gates. The latest was when Gates refused to fill out all the complete paperwork for Jim. Meanwhile, Jim's family showed up at the ER and began to discuss his condition. They had asked Beckett to leave the room citing that it was a family concern.

While Jim was going through cardiac arrest, his family had decided to let him go. Beckett interrupted their decision and told them that Jim would want to fight for his life. Beckett declared his love for Jim. Jim's brother wanted Beckett dismissed from the ER.

Pratt was forced to agree with Jim's family when it came to the final wishes for their brother. Gates thought it was irresponsible to agree with the family when it was obvious that Beckett was Jim's caretaker. Gates wanted to try to save Jim because he felt partially responsible for not filling out his chart properly. Pratt told Gates to stay out of it.

Neela and Morris paid Abby a visit in the park with baby Joe. While Morris snuck away some time with Joe, Abby wanted to know how Neela was doing. Neela confessed that her new surgical chief, Dr. Crenshaw was a pain. As Morris returned, Neela got called into surgery. When she rushed back to the hospital, she found that Crenshaw wanted her to do the paperwork instead of participating in the surgery.

Gates ignored Pratt's orders, and saved Jim's life. Beckett was thankful to Gates for saving Jim's life. When Pratt got wind of what Gates did, he tracked him down and scolded him for disobeying him. Gates still stood by his decision, but was forced to rethink it when he found out that Jim may have a beating heart, but he was brain dead.

Gates apologized to Beckett for Jim's comatose condition. Beckett completely understood that Gates just did what he felt he had to do. Gates told him he should go on with his drag queen show that he had planned on performing in that night at the club he owned.

Morris made a move on Hope, the new intern in the ER. She refused his advances in front of his peers and wanted to know if Morris had accepted Jesus in his life. Morris told her he thought Jesus was cool, in order to try to win points with her. Then he agreed to go to her bible study.

Sam came into Alex's room to tuck him in. She had a talk with him about his therapy. He confessed the reason that he had remained so silent in his sessions was because he witnessed his mom kill Steve. Sam didn't know how to respond to what Alex had said. Meanwhile, Beckett went on with the show back at his club and Neela was at her apartment looking at pictures of Gallant.
