ER Episode 12.03 Man With No Name

Luka sits alone in his apartment as the maid comes in to clean. He wakes up out of a daze and tells the maid that Sam doesn't live there anymore. His life is clearly a mess without Sam, as there's garbage everywhere, unopened mail and dirty dishes in the sink.

At the hospital, there's a new head nurse, Eve (Kristin Johnston). She corrals all the nurses and explains how things will be changing in the ER.

Outside the hospital, Kerry yells at Luka for not being on the floor in time. As they're talking, an unknown man comes up to them screaming — he's burned from head to toe.

Luka and Kerry immediately attend to the burn victim and Sam assists them. Luka is still clearly distracted by his crumbling relationship.

Meanwhile, Neela prepares a care package for Michael in Iraq. She asks everyone to contribute something — even Frank, who adds porn. But she can't figure out what to send Michael personally. She tells Abby she made him a mix CD and wrote him a poem, but Abby remarks that those things are too "high school." She says a man at war has certain needs and persuades Neela to take risque pictures of herself instead.

Luka takes a moment to relax after treating the burn victim and talks to Sam. She asks Luka if he's still taking Alex to his soccer game on Saturday. Luka is surprised and thinks there's a window of hope. He says he understands that things happened too fast, but he doesn't want their relationship to be one more thing he has messed up. Sam rebukes him, though, and says she doesn't want to pretend anymore. She leaves and Luka slams the door in frustration.

The day gets worse when a boy, Robby, is brought into the ER suffering from severe head trauma. Robby was riding a scooter without a helmet and ran into a woman on the street. The lady is brought in at the same time.

The boy is in critical condition but Luka decides to help the lady instead — mainly because Sam is with Robby.

Luka is badly needed with Robby as Greg isn't able to open his lungs. Eve, assessing the scene — and an M.D. in her own right — takes over for Greg and gets Robby breathing again.

Eve later yells at Luka for not assessing the situation properly, and says he's been blinded by his relationship with Sam. She tells him she will consider switching the nurses' shifts to accommodate him.

Robby is sent to the ICU, but when his heart rate drops, he's brought back down to the ER. Robby's mother watches nervously when her husband (they're separated) enters the room. Upon seeing Robby, he attacks his wife because she let Robby ride without a helmet. Luka jumps in the middle of the melee and gets cut above his eye. The father is restrained by security.

Later that night, Luka finds Sam out in the parking lot waiting for Alex. He apologizes to Sam for the situation with the patient Robby. He still intends to take Alex to his soccer game.

Eve finds Sam after Luka leaves. Sam says it's over between them, but Eve doesn't buy it. She tells Sam that she's changing her shifts because of this, which forces Sam to sacrifice her time with Alex.

Abby finds Luka at the bar across the street. Luka is drunk and says he needs a ride home. Abby takes him back and sees the squalor he's living in.

Luka confides in Abby that he can't get the burn victim out of his head and how he still had the will to live. He wonders if he were ever hurt like that if he'd have the same will. Abby leaves him, passed out, cigarette still burning in the ashtray.
