Dr. Choi (Brian Tee) faces a moral dilemma when a suffering patient requests that Choi take out his LVAD - a heart assist device that is keeping the patient alive. After a consultation with Dr. Downey (guest star Gregg Henry), Dr. Rhodes (Colin Donnell) honors the patient's wishes... but not before a bitter confrontation with Dr. Choi, who insists that what Dr. Rhodes is doing is assisted suicide. Within hours after the removal of the device, the patient dies in his sleep.

Dr. Halstead (Nick Gehlfuss) continues to find himself on thin ice after he looks into the well-being of the cancer patient he resuscitated against her wishes. Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson), upon learning of Halstead's inquiries, threatens him with termination unless he steers clear of the case.

Sarah (Rachel DiPillo) learns of a private practice doctor's mistakes - and brings them to the attention of Goodwin. Complicating matters is that the doctor in question is a close friend of Dr. Charles. After an investigation, the doctor is forbidden from returning to Chicago Med.

Dr. Manning (Torrey DeVitto) treats a young girl with a rare form of the flu, prompting fears of an outbreak at the hospital. Later, while vaccinating children at a local elementary school, Dr. Manning puts herself in harm's way to save the life of a teacher infected with the same illness.

April (Yaya DaCosta) is troubled to find that her brother, Noah, is goofing off in his medical student duties... and that a careless mistake on his part could have led to lethal consequences for a patient. Though she initially lets him off with a warning, she later writes him up for the error, insisting that she only wants him to be the best doctor he can be.
