After someone leaks a recording that proves a U.S. State Department official's involvement in a murder, the official is abducted and killed. Red (James Spader) knows the recording was released by The Caretaker (Reg E. Cathey), a professional secret keeper whose clients include criminals, governments and billionaires. The task force learns The Caretaker uses the Postal Service's retired system of pneumatic tubes as a delivery service for sketchy clientele. The system leads the FBI to The Caretaker, who's in a cemetery, digging a canister out of a mutilated corpse - the so-called vault where he keeps his clients' secrets. The Caretaker, Albert Janus, reveals his daughter, Rose, was kidnapped. Eventually, the team tracks down the kidnapper and rescues Rose. But there's a major twist - her kidnapper is her brother, Justin. Rose reveals that Janus actually kidnapped her from her real parents when she was a child. She later sought out her family and developed a revenge scheme with Justin, tricking Janus into revealing his confidential assets.

Eager to take their relationship to the next level, Liz (Megan Boone) proposes to Tom (Ryan Eggold) and he says yes. But Red, who doesn't trust Tom, is less than thrilled. Tom approaches Gina (Margarita Levieva) with an offer of truce, and she reluctantly agrees to help him walk away from their life of crime. Whether she's really on board with that plan is somewhat unclear.

Meanwhile, Cooper advises Liz to talk to CI Anton Velov in order to find out more about her mother. Anton gives Liz a letter that suggests Katarina Rostova is alive and looking for her. When she angrily confronts Red, he insists Katarina committed suicide years ago. But later, we see Dembe (Hisham Tawfiq) retrieve a sealed letter for Liz from Janus' corpse vault. Red intended it to go to Liz if anything happened to him, but now he's not so sure. And with that, Red torches the letter and the secret within it.
