After the elimination, Ali points out that it's obvious that family is more important than anything. Ali asks the Red Team to join the Black Team to tell everyone they're going home for two whole weeks! The players are moved to tears at the idea of seeing their loved ones.
Each player boards a plane to their hometown where their family and friends are waiting. Each player walks into a celebration gathering in his or her honor. Marci tearfully introduces a much slimmer Courtney to everyone and the crowd goes wild.
While boxing in their hometown of Portland, Jesse and Arthur share a little bonding time. Jesse opens up to his son about his drug problems in the past, hoping they can move forward together by building a stronger bond with this weight loss journey.
In Pasadena, Austin celebrates his 21st birthday with a bowling party with friends. He's learning to enjoy the party without giving into all the temptation around him - but he's faced with the ultimate temptation when his friends bring out a chocolate cheesecake for his birthday. Austin stays strong and passes on the cake.
It isn't all about celebrating while the players are home; they're also training for a 5K marathon. Back in Portland, Arthur has one goal and that's not to finish last.
The stay at home comes to an end, and the players all have to say goodbye to their family and friends and head back to the ranch.
Ali welcomes the players back to the ranch and shows them the treadmills they'll be running their 5K on. Ali tells the players that it's the same challenge they did the first day on campus, except each player will be running individually. But the prize is the same as before: the players will get to re-choose their trainers.
As the players start the race, Ali reminds them that the first seven to finish will definitely have control of their fate when it comes to training. Justin is the first player to complete the 5K, and the rest of the players give him a round of applause. Rulon comes in a quick second.
All four trainers walk into the weigh-in and are shocked with the latest turn of events. Rulon and Justin are the first to reveal which trainer they've chosen. Brett and Cara are both moved that the guys decided to stick with them. Kaylee decides to stick with the Red Team, too.
As most of the players continue to stay with the same trainer, Sara surprises her teammates by choosing Bob and Jillian. Brett and Cara are happy to see Jennifer get out of her comfort zone, but that means Arthur has to switch to the Red Team. Bob and Jillian are floored by the news.
The weigh-in begins! The Black Team is shocked when Arthur pulls only 16 pounds for the last two weeks. Arthur knows that means he'll be up for elimination, since the rest of the Red Team are loyal to their fellow teammates. The Black Team tells Arthur to not give up the fight. Jillian and Bob start to tear up when they think of Arthur going home. Bob pleads with the Red Team to keep Arthur on the ranch.
The Red Team has to vote on the elimination, and most of them choose Arthur. Before Arthur leaves the ranch, Ali reminds him that he's an inspiration to America, and encourages him to keep up the fight when he goes back home.
