Casey is up for a job as the mascot for the WNBA's New York Liberty. He hopes to follow in the footsteps of his half-brother who has been the Phillie Phanatic and the Mariner Moose in the past. He recommended Casey to replace him as the Liberty mascot since he just got elected to congress in Vermont.

Casey's pumped to be the new Maddie. Yes, the Liberty's mascot has the same name as his future sister-in-law. Both were named after Madison Square Garden. Maddie the mascot obviously works there and Maddie the lawyer may have been conceived in a bathroom during a Paul McCartney concert.

In order to nail the interview, Casey wants to borrow one of Ben's humorous neckties. He also snags a jacket before heading out the door. Everyone freaks when they realize that Casey took the unlucky leather jacket they've kept packed away from the world. Anyone who has worn this particular piece of clothing ended up having the worst day ever.

Maddie was wearing the jacket as bees attacked her during a TV news interview. Ben was wearing the jacket at a Yankees game when he accidentally dropped his blanket over the outfield wall. It landed on the head of leftfielder Nick Swisher (JoAnna Garcia Swisher's real-life hubby) causing him to drop a fly ball that would have ended the game. Good thing Yankee fans have always been known for their gentle understanding whenever their team loses, right?

Mia was wearing the jacket when she got locked in a department store display window. The guy she was dating walked by with his arm around another woman. Ouch. Joel had the jacket on when he saw a hundred dollar bill on the ground, but a prostitute saw the C-note, too. A cop caught them wrestling over the bill and arrested Joel for solicitation. As for Vicky, her unlucky jacket story involves an international incident at the U.N. 'Nuff said.

Ben and Maddie get very competitive come trivia night at the local bar. They are tired of losing to their top rivals, Tom and Cynthia. Maddie can't stand the smug couple's team nickname, Takin' Care of Quizness. Ben and Maddie's team name, by the way, is The Quizards of Oz.

The stress of competitive trivia has taken its toll on Ben and Maddie. They decide to ditch each other as partners. Ben becomes trivia buddies with Joel while Maddie enlists Vicky as her new partner. That may not be the wisest move since Vicky will be covering sports. But Maddie blows off the fact that her mom thinks touchdowns are part of the World Series to prove to Ben that she'll be just fine without him.

The race is on to get that jacket away from Casey, who is smack dab in the middle of his job interview. That doesn't stop Mia from interrupting. Casey politely shuffles the love of his life out the door. But he can't stop the rest of the crew from barging inside to forcibly remove that unlucky leather jacket. Casey stumbles into a display area filled with valuable sports memorabilia. CRASH! The office is in shambles and this interview is over.

Casey blames the entire family for costing him the job even though everyone else blames the jacket. They need to get rid of the bad luck. Maddie and Ben decide to team up once again with a plan to take down their trivia rivals. They present Tom and Cynthia with the leather jacket as a gift in the spirit of sportsmanship. Finally, the unlucky jacket is out of their lives. But was it really all that unlucky?

Casey ends up getting the mascot gig thanks to the jacket. His interviewer was impressed at how unprofessional he was. He was an animal, much like Maddie the mascot. Score! Casey believes the jacket is actually lucky. There's a positive spin to everyone's jacket tale, including the one where Mia dumped her boyfriend which freed her to meet Casey.

The jacket works in mysterious ways, which explains the 3,000 correct answers in a row that Tom and Cynthia rattle off during trivia those ongoing trivia competitions. Still curious as to how Vicky's jacket adventure killed two horses and caused an incident at the U.N. though.
