Believe Episode 1.02 Beginner's Luck

Bo and Tate wake up from a nap on the bus ride to Philadelphia. The bus has been stopped by the Highway Patrol, which is canvassing vehicles in search of Tate. Just before the police officer discovers him, Bo uses her telekinetic abilities to shift the patrol car into neutral, causing it to roll backwards down the hill. Both of the officers scurry off in pursuit of their runaway vehicle, allowing the bus to continue toward its destination. It was a close call, and Tate has glimpsed yet another one of Bo's extraordinary powers.

Meanwhile, Skouras has solicited the help of an FBI agent, Elizabeth Ferrell, to track down Tate and Bo. Ferrell's objective is to recapture the escaped death row inmate, but Skouras emphasizes that Bo is his top priority. He invites Agent Ferrell to his Orchestra Project facility to witness the miraculous feats of some of his other promising gifted children. Ferrell can't believe what she's seeing.

Agent Ferrell issues a nationwide Amber Alert, plastering every news channel with photos of Bo and Tate. At the next bus stop, Tate quickly realizes that they'll have to go into hiding until the heat dies down. He and Bo duck into a public restroom for the night to stay out of sight.

The next morning, Tate shaves his head to distinguish himself from the long-haired convict whose face is all over the news. It's not much of a disguise, but every little bit helps. Unfortunately, the two refugees have another looming problem: they have no money. Tate decides to utilize Bo's telekinetic abilities at a nearby casino to manipulate a craps game and obtain some much-needed spending money.

Tate hits the tables while Bo enjoys a milkshake at a restaurant just off the casino floor. She quickly befriends the waitress, Bonnie, by inadvertently sensing that she has a sick child named Jesse at home. Bonnie is bewildered by Bo's insights, but Bo and Tate disappear with their casino winnings before she has a chance to question Bo about her intuitions.

Meanwhile, Skouras hires a mercenary to track down Bo and Tate. The police and FBI are on the hunt, but Skouras knows that Winter is prepared for that. Winter and his team used to work beside Skouras and the Orchestra Project, and Winter raised Bo in the facility from infancy. At some point in the process, Winter and his entire team defected from Orchestra, took Bo, and went on the run. Agent Ferrell wonders why a team of brilliant scientists would abandon a project like that... unless they thought the goals of the organization would endanger Bo. Although Skouras assures Ferrell that this wasn't the case, she can tell he's not being entirely honest with her.

Bonnie is on her way home from work when she spots Tate and Bo walking down the street on their way to the train station. She offers her new casino friends a ride, which they gladly accept. On the drive, Bo questions Bonnie for more details about her sick boy. Bonnie explains that Jesse has leukemia, and she's working hard and saving for an extremely expensive experimental treatment. Bo asks if she can meet Jesse, and Tate, desperate to avoid a police roadblock ahead, agrees to the visit.

The trio arrives at Bonnie's apartment and Bo meets Jesse, a terminally ill but extremely optimistic young boy with a heart of gold. Jesse introduces Bo to his stuffed animal collection and Bo uses her telekinetic powers to bring some of his favorite toys to life. It's a thrilling day for Jesse.

After the visit, Bonnie drops Tate and Bo off at the train station. With the help of some simple disguises, Tate and Bo make it onto the train toward Philadelphia. Unfortunately, their hopes are quickly dashed when a fellow passenger recognizes Bo from the Amber Alert broadcasts. Within moments, Bo and Tate are off the train and on the run again. Tate hotwires a car from a nearby parking lot. They'll make it to Philadelphia one way or another.

Bo informs Tate that she gave away his casino winnings to Jesse to use for his leukemia operation. Tate is upset by the news, but he also realizes that greed has no place in Bo's world. Later, Bonnie checks in on Jesse, who is playing happily in his room. He casually mentions that Bo gave him some money, then hands his mother $30,000 in cash. Bonnie is shocked and elated.

Down the highway, Tate and Bo stop at a gas station for a bathroom break. While filling the gas tank, Tate is surprised by Skouras' mercenary, Krakauer, who managed to track them down. Tate and Krakauer exchange blows while the mercenary attempts to flee with Bo, but with some help from his miraculous sidekick, Tate manages to fend off the mercenary and escape just before Krakauer blows the gas station to smithereens.

A few blocks from the gas station, a squad of police cars intercepts Tate and Bo's SUV. Tate dissuades Bo from using her powers to save him. Instead, he assures her that it's the end of the line and that everything will be okay. Tate is handcuffed and thrown into a police car, where he discovers Winter disguised as a patrol officer, laughing at the elaborate ruse they've just pulled. Channing is already in the other squad car with Bo, who is finally reunited with the closest thing to a family she has. They're safe for now, but it's only a matter of time before they'll have to deal with Skouras once and for all.
