ROB & KELLEY OUSTED IN ISTANBUL LOST AND FOUND

Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 8:30am, rock star and lawyer James & Abba ripped open their clue sending them 3,700 miles to Istanbul, Turkey where the Bosphorus Strait separates Europe and Asia. After touching down on the European side they had to make their way to the Kabatas Ferry Terminal to find their next clue. With only one flight from Dhaka, teams were guaranteed to travel together, and a group gathered at a travel agency to purchase their tickets. James & Abba, who hadn't seen other teams in two legs, reconnected with dating divorcees Ryan & Abbie, twins Natalie & Nadiya, monster truckers Rob & Kelley, and dating couple Trey & Lexi. When James & Abba jumped to a computer vacated by the twins to do some travel research, Nadiya noticed a large wad of American dollars lying on the ground and picked it up. Before Nadiya could say anything, Natalie told her to "shut the hell up" as the twins brought alliance mates Trey & Lexi into the situation. Lexi later said, "When you find money like that a lot of things are going through your head. Is it a game changer?" Choosing to stay silent rather than try to find the rightful owner of the money, Natalie said, "I have a good conscience, but when it comes to stuff like this, the drive gets strong." It soon became clear that the twins and Lexi agreed to keep the money. Trey showed some hesitation but had little say in the decision.

BROKE IN BANGLADESH

When Trey & Lexi and Natalie & Nadiya exited the travel agency, Abba noticed he lost a hundred dollars from the zippered pouch of his bag. Thinking the money fell out in the cab, James & Abba have to find a way to get enough money to survive the leg. Upset and feeling responsible, a disheartened Abba said, "It can't happen like this." James tried to lift his buddy's spirits and suggested they go into the streets and beg for the money they needed. Dreading the thought of having to beg in such a poor country, Abba said, "What a mess this is going to be." Meanwhile, at the airport, Natalie & Nadiya split the cash 50/50 with their accomplices, Trey & Lexi. Nadiya joked, "That way the guilt can be split up half and half and they're [Trey & Lexi] Christian so they'll pray for us." When Nadiya guessed the money belonged to James & Abba, a surprised Natalie said, "I wish it was Abbie & Ryan's." Going into a business district, James & Abba met an incredibly helpful and kind local woman who offered some money and a hug for James as well. This generosity led to an even greater outpouring of money and well wishes from others on the street. One man told the grateful team, "This is my country. You are my guest." Afterwards, Abba said, "I don't have any words to express the gratitude of giving us that amount of money. It was a hundred bucks." Reaching the airport with a pocket full of cash once again, James & Abba boarded their flight with the other teams, but chose not to tell anyone they lost money because they didn't "want to let the other teams see weakness."

TRAIN TROUBLES

Landing in Istanbul, teams had two options for transportation to Kabatas Ferry Terminal-- taxi or train. While almost everyone decided to take a taxi, Chippendales Jaymes & James and married monster truckers Rob & Kelley chose to ride the metro believing it would be faster. Waiting nervously for the train to leave the airport, the Chippendales breathed a sigh of relief when Rob & Kelley boarded, saying, "At least we're not alone." While the Chippendales and the monster truckers rode slowly through the city, the other five teams all arrived at Kabatas Ferry Terminal led by rock star and lawyer James & Abba. Ripping open their clues, the teams now had to travel back to Asia by taking a ferry across the Bosphorus Strait to the Asian side of Turkey and search the Uskadar Terminal for their next clue. James & Abba jumped onto the first ferry across the strait while Abbie & Ryan, Natalie & Nadiya, Josh & Brent, and Trey & Lexi all shared the second ferry. Upon leaving the shore, one of the twins said of their friends on the train, "I feel so bad for Chippendales." Feeling uneasy about their decision, Jaymes & James asked a local train rider for advice on whether a taxi would be faster. The local told them a taxi would indeed be faster, the Chippendales deliberated for a moment, and then jumped off at the next stop and into a cab. Seeing the Chippendales exit the train, a confident Rob scoffed, saying, "They [Chippendales] think they need to group up with the other people. They're followers. We're not followers. This might be the leg that we might get us a win."

TURKISH DELIGHTS

Reaching shore at Uskadar Terminal on the Asian side of Istanbul, the five lead teams raced to Misir Carsisi and searched through the massive Spice Bazaar market until they found Shop No.14. Along with getting a box of delicious Turkish delight from the storeowner, the five teams also received their next clue-- a Detour with the choice of Simit or Scrub It. Simit required teams to transport Turkish bagels known as simits to three different addresses. They had to figure out how to stack their simits on trays, and then, with a cloth on their head, they had to balance their precarious cargo while walking through the streets of Istanbul. In Scrub It, teams experienced one of Istanbul's most time-honored indulgences, a Turkish bath. First, teams had to pick up their bathing items and then make their way to a 16th century bathhouse. Once they chose an attendant, they would be led to a marble room where they would be cleansed like never before.

GETTING SCOOPED

As James & Abba, Trey & Lexi, Abbie & Ryan, and Natalie & Nadiya all made their way to the bathhouse for a scrub down, goat farmers Josh & Brent faced their Speed Bump, a task only they had to perform as a penalty for finishing last in the previous leg. In this Speed Bump, they had to find a marked vendor, buy two scoops each of Turkish ice cream, and then eat this tasty treat before continuing on the Race. Wandering around the area outside the New Mosque, Josh & Brent ran right past the marked vending stand and instead spotted a different one where they ordered two ice cream cones. However, since this was Turkish ice cream, the pair also ordered up an entertaining floorshow since Turkish vendors traditionally serve their ice cream with a comedy routine. Before Brent was handed his 2-scoop cone, the vendor pulled it away from him, pretended to drop the cone on the ground causing Brent to jump for it, and touched the ice cream cone on the Brent's face. As Brent began devouring his cone, Josh watched and participated in an equally lively show before being handed his too. After the pair ate their cones, they returned to the storeowner at Shop No. 14 who told them, "You didn't pass the exam." Rereading their clue, Josh & Brent realized they hadn't purchased ice cream at the marked stand. Running back outside to the area around the New Mosque, the goat farmers spotted the stand with a red and yellow flag on it and ordered two more cones that came with yet another show. Biting into his second ice cream, Brent said, "The second cone is not quite as good as the first." By the time Josh & Brent returned to Shop No. 14 for their clue and Turkish delight, Chippendales Jaymes & James entered the Spice Bazaar right behind them. While the Chippendales decided to get scrubbed down, Josh & Brent chose to deliver simits.

SCRUB DOWN

Entering an ornate marble room of the bathhouse wearing scant more than towels, teams sat as attendants began to scrub them down. With a smile on her face, Lexi enjoyed her relaxing scrub down, saying, "This feels so nice." Getting cleaned and refreshed, rock star James sarcastically said, "This is horrible, so much torture." As he got his feet massaged, Ryan told his attendant, "You've got to give me your number, dude." Getting cold water poured over him, Chippendale Jaymes winced, but embraced the feeling, commenting, "All of Bangladesh off of me." After getting their scrubs, teams got a deep tissue massage and rubdown, eliciting some groans of pain along with sighs of contentment. Chippendale James later joked that his masseuse was less than gentle, "My guy was giving me the business. It was like a battle of wills." Once the five teams felt fully refreshed and clean, they received their next clue instructing them to make their way on foot to Kapali Carsi and search for the marked fountain inside the bazaar.

FRESH DELIVERY

After finishing their Speed Bump, goat farmers Josh & Brent fell to sixth place ahead of only monster truckers Rob & Kelley as both teams decided to deliver simits. The narrow lead the goat farmers held over the monster trucks started to disappear when Josh, who took the role of team navigator, couldn't find the first bakery to deliver the simits. Growing frustrated with his partner, Brent, who stood on the sidewalks of Istanbul with a tray of simits balanced on his head, sniped, "We cannot do this the next time. You're not thinking." Brent continued to pressure Josh to ask a local for correct directions rather than wander through the streets. Finally, Josh found an English speaking man who directed the goat farmers to the first bakery allowing them to consistently remain one delivery ahead of the monster truckers who had Rob carrying simits while Kelley directed him.

SERVING SHERBET

Running into the bazaar at Kapali Carsi, dating couple, Trey & Lexi, and dating divorcees, Abbie & Ryan, ripped open their clues at the marked fountain to discover a Roadblock. In it, one team member had to serve up Turkish sherbet, regarded as the world's first soft drink. Dressing up as a local vendor, they had to carry a long spout and brass teapot and serve 40 glasses of this popular refreshment. Once they earned 40 lira, roughly 20 US dollars, the sherbet vendor would hand them their next clue. Now dressed in bright red pants with a matching vest and fez, Lexi and Ryan each strapped a large golden urn containing sherbet to their backs and set out inside the crowded bazaar for thirsty customers. To pour the sherbet, they simply had to bend over and delicious sherbet would begin to flow from long spout that snaked over their shoulder. Both racers initially had some problems selling, but relied on their careers and skills for motivation. As a cheerleader, Lexi said, "You have to be upbeat the whole time. You have to attract a crowd." With her bubbly personality and big smile, Lexi did exactly that racking up the sales quickly. Meanwhile, Ryan used his business background and got a local man to be his broker, offering a commission for every sale he could bring to Ryan. This clever idea sent Ryan's sales surging as he closed the gap with Lexi.

TEXAS ON TOP

Lexi returned to the fountain with 40 lira and ran off with Trey bound for the Pit Stop located in a park next to the docked ship Savarona. Seeing this, Nadiya cheered for her alliance mates, saying, "They need to get number one. I'd rather Texas get it than Abbie & Ryan." Abbie overheard this remark and when Ryan returned to the fountain with his 40 lira she told him what Nadiya said, prompting Ryan to snap, "They're so juvenile. They can suck it." As a band played festive Turkish music alongside the Savarona, Lexi danced when she and Trey stepped on the mat in first place to win a trip for two from Travelocity to Australia. Lexi told Phil, "We were due a first place and we did it. Today was incredible." Meanwhile, dating divorcees Abbie & Ryan settled for second place for the third consecutive leg.

CUTTING IT CLOSE

With rock star and lawyer James & Abba and twins Natalie & Nadiya finishing the leg in third and fourth places respectively, Chippendale James fumbled at the Roadblock. Watching uninterested shoppers walk past him in the bazaar, James lamented, "Selling juice is a hard racket." Seeing James drop cups on the ground and holding the teapot incorrectly made his teammate Jaymes a little worried. However, Jaymes' stress levels went through the roof with the arrival of the last two teams, saying, "You see monster trucks. You see Beekman Boys. You know you're at the back of the pack." Eventually, James went to his bread and butter demographic and got the remaining money he needed from a group of women to ensure he and Jaymes ended in fifth place.

SKIN OF THEIR TEETH

While Brent edged out Kelley in selling sherbet, he and Josh began to worry that whatever lead they had on the monster truckers was disappearing as they sat in bumper to bumper traffic. Listening to horns honking but seeing no cars move, Josh marveled, "This is insane." Rather than just accept their fate, Josh corralled Brent and together they jumped out of their taxi and directed traffic to clear out the congestion. Once cars started to move, the couple jumped back in their taxi and sped to the park to edge out the monster truckers for sixth place. Surprised and relieved, Brent laughed, "By the skin of our teeth." Stepping on the mat in last place, married monster truckers Rob & Kelley became the fifth team eliminated from the Race. On his wife and partner, Rob commented, "Without Kelley, I'm nothing. I'm so blessed to have this woman in my life and for somebody to love me the way that she loves me. [It's worth] way more than a million dollars."
