LOUIE & MICHAEL PUZZLED IN SHANGHAI

For the first time ever, teams performed two Roadblocks in the same leg. Cowboys Jet & Cord excelled at both to earn another first place finish. One Roadblock drove Jordan to tears and the other Roadblock spiraled detectives Louie & Michael into last place.

U-TURN FALLOUT

Departing the Pit Stop at 4:47pm, brothers Dan & Jordan ripped open their clue instructing them to fly over 2,300 miles to Shanghai, China. When they landed, they had to travel by taxi to the nearby village of Zhujiajiao known as the Venice of China. Once they arrived, waiting boats would deliver teams to their next clue.

Having taken the Fast Forward in the previous leg, Dan & Jordan had no clue about the wild drama that took place on the ground while they climbed across the Singapore Flyer above. At the airport, the brothers got the full story from Brent & Caite as Louie & Michael and Jet & Cord listened in. After Caite boisterously recreated her reaction to seeing an empty U-Turn board, Louie joked, "You should've said, "Wait a minute. Let me put my tiara on first." Caite ended the story by triumphantly noting, "Only girl left!" Afterwards, a more measured Jordan commented, "Brent & Caite's U-turning of Carol & Brandy was so much driven by personal issues... It was a very poor decision...The cowboys are incredibly strong competitors and that's a team to U-turn at that point in the game. We're all gonna look back on that and question that decision."

TAXI TURMOIL

Landing in Shanghai, the four teams raced out of the airport and into taxis bound for Zhujiajiao. Cowboys Jet & Cord and dating models Brent & Caite took the early lead, while detectives Louie & Michael and brothers Dan & Jordan quickly realized that their taxi drivers didn't know how to find the village. The two drivers conversed on the side of the road and then stopped again to ask a local for directions, while all Louie & Michael and Dan & Jordan could do was worry. Jordan said, "It was the blind leading the blind." Michael added, "This is like communicating with Martians right now." As the two drivers continued to wander through unfamiliar streets, Louie said, "You're only as good as your taxi driver when you're in a foreign country." Finally, the two drivers got directions from a local woman who pointed them to the village only three kilometers away.

Arriving in Zhujiajiao, Brent & Caite spotted the marked boats first and jumped into one ahead of Jet & Cord. As the dating models glided down the narrow waterway with buildings on either side of them, Brent marveled, "I feel like I'm in Sicily." In a boat close behind them, Jet later commented, "It was a pretty place. It was neat, kind of tranquil."

NOODLE NIGHTMARE

Jumping out of their boat, Brent & Caite ran to the nearby cluebox to find a Roadblock. In it, one team member had to master the complex art of making noodles by hand. After watching a demonstration by the local noodle maker, teams had to use the time-honored technique to turn a mound of dough into 1,000 grams or one kilo of noodles. When they were finished, Pingping, the world's shortest man, would hand them their next clue.

Caite, after donning a baker's hat and white jacket, met Pingping, commenting, "He was so adorable." Brent added, "I literally think he's the length of my foot to my knee." Getting down to business, Caite watched the demonstration and then began to twirl the dough into a braid as Jet joined her. Both Jet and Caite had plenty of issues in trying to create perfect noodles like the noodle maker, but Jet discovered the trick of adding flour, once the dough was stretched out, to prevent the newly formed noodles from sticking together. By the time that Jordan and Louie arrived and began making noodles for their respective teams, Jet added the final 200 grams to growing pile to complete a full kilo. Opening their next clue, the cowboys discovered that they had to return to Shanghai and find the city's fashion district.

With Jet & Cord leaving, Brent began to stress that Caite wasn't making noodles quickly enough, causing Caite to snap, "Brent, shut up! Seriously! I'm doing perfectly fine." Trying to stay ahead of Louie and Jordan, Caite continued to gently stretch out the dough into noodles and add pile after pile onto the scale. Still anxious, Brent shouted, "Caite, we don't have all day!" Finally, Caite put her boyfriend's fears to rest as she reached the one kilo mark and gave Pingping a kiss when he handed her the next clue.

As Louie picked up steam, channeling his Italian heritage of pasta making, Jordan became increasingly upset when the noodle master rejected Jordan's less than perfect creation. Seeing Jordan's frustration, Louie worked even harder knowing that he had a golden opportunity to get ahead of the brothers. Louie's pile of noodles continued to grow with partner Michael cheering him on until he finally stretched and twirled enough dough to earn the clue.

Alone in last place with the cold weather affecting his abilities to knead and stretch the dough Jordan began to cry when his brother, Dan, walked over to offer an encouraging hug. Dan told his brother, "I want you to just relax, okay? I know how hard this is." As the tears flowed, Jordan said, "I hate this so much." After regaining his composure, Jordan returned to his work table and continued to knead the dough in the frigid temperatures, roll it out, and stretch it into noodles. When he finally reached the one kilogram mark, Jordan gave the noodle marker a big hug and happily took the clue from Pingping. Back in the taxi, Dan joked, "You smell like noodles."

HIGH FASHION

Arriving in the Fashion District of Shanghai, cowboys Jet & Cord opened their next clue instructing them to walk into the fashion house that they stood in front of, and choose a model who would hand them a sketch of a specific design. Then, amid the many racks of clothing, teams had to find the correct pieces to give the model who would put on the outfit. If they correctly matched the sketch, the designer would hand them their next clue.

Walking into the Fashion House, Jet moaned, "Not more fine arts. First drums, now this." As the cowboys began to search through the accessory tables, they found the belt and bright purple stockings that matched the sketch they received from the model. Once they found the skirt and blouse, the cowboys handed the outfit to the model who went to a changing room to try it on. Strutting out in a stylish outfit, the model appeared runway ready, but the designer shook her head in disapproval. Looking at the sketch, the cowboys realized that they gave their model the wrong shirt, and quickly corrected their mistake, to earn the next clue instructing them to travel to the Hong Kou Football Stadium.

Once Brent & Caite successfully dressed their model and left for the stadium, a lost Louie & Michael, who circled around the Fashion District in confusion, finally spotted the Fashion House and walked inside asking, "What kind of detectives are we?" Louie & Michael quickly rummaged through the racks of clothing and identified the outfit for their model as brothers Dan & Jordan entered the Fashion House. When the detectives' model emerged from the changing room, she looked exactly like the sketch except for one detail. Jordan also proved adept at locating the clothes and quickly got his and Dan's model dressed, but she too had a wrong article of clothing. Both teams stood confused until Jordan realized that the two models needed to switch stockings. Once the models traded their black and gray stockings, Louie & Michael and Dan & Jordan left the Fashion House in a dead heat for last place.

PUZZLING SITUATION

Running into Hong Kou Football Stadium, cowboys Jet & Cord ripped open their clue to find another Roadblock. For the first time ever, teams would face two Roadblocks in the same leg of the race. The person who sat out the first Roadblock had to do this one. In it, one team member, using only a small picture for reference, had to assemble a giant puzzle cut into 96 separate cards, that they would then hand to spectators sitting in the stands who would flip the cards over. If the puzzle was assembled correctly, flipping it would reveal a seat number where they would find their next clue.

Cord ran onto the stadium track and began to lay out the large pieces of the puzzle as the crowd in the stands cheered for him. On the difficulty of puzzle Cord said, "Every piece kind of looked alike. I could tell right off the bat I had my work cut out for me." To make matters worse, Cord noticed a breeze blowing and ordered, "Whoa wind." As Cord began to make progress, completing the dragon's head in the picture, another gust of wind blew a piece of puzzle away onto the field.

SWEPT AWAY

With the arrival of Brent on the stadium track, Cord continued to construct his puzzle as the wind picked up speed. The carrot-topped cowboy nearly had his puzzle complete and Brent made major headway by finishing the outer edges when Michael and Dan began sorting puzzle pieces for their teams. However, Cord and Brent suffered a major setback when a massive gust of wind swept away most of their hard work. Cord tried hanging on to as many pieces as possible during the windstorm by laying down over his puzzle while all Brent could do was watch in disgust as his pieces flew across to the other side of the stadium, saying, "I cannot frickin' believe that! It's completely gone." Seeing the destruction the wind caused to Cord and Brent, Jordan told his brother to use their backpacks to hold down the pieces and avoid a similar fate.

When the wind settled down, Cord and Brent managed to repair the damage done as Michael and Dan continued to build their puzzle. Even with the catastrophic wind, Cord still finished ahead of Brent, Michael, and Dan and the cowboy distributed the cards to the eagerly awaiting crowd. When the crowd turned around their pieces, Cord read the sign revealing his clue in Section 20, Row 16, Seat 33. After running through the stadium, Cord reached Seat 33 and found the clue underneath. Opening it with Jet, the cowboys discovered that they had to take the metro to the next Pit Stop at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.

As Brent completed his puzzle, cowboys Jet & Cord stepped onto the mat in first place. For their victory, the cowboys received a luxury trip for two from Travelocity to Alaska. On their successful day, Cord joked, "Winning first for the fourth time is awesome. We've won three trips around the world and me and him both say, ‘We ain't goin' with each other.'"

SHOWDOWN

With Brent & Caite claiming second place, Michael and Dan now battled each other for third place. While getting off to a good start, Michael slowed to a crawl when he began to fixate on finding a specific piece of a star, later saying, "It just threw me off. The colors weren't matching. Nothing was matching." Meanwhile, Dan continued to excel placing piece after piece together, while his brother and the crowd cheering him on. After laying down the last piece, Dan quickly distributed the cards to the crowd and finished in third place with Jordan, as a frustrated Michael tried to make sense out of his puzzle, saying, "Just not seeing it. It's driving me absolutely crazy."

As darkness fell in Shanghai, the bright lights over the stadium came blasting on and a relieved Michael finally solved the puzzle. With little hope of continuing on, Louie said, "I have no regrets. I've met some unbelievable people in this race. I am blessed that I've been up here to this point." Stepping onto the mat, the detectives heard the horrible news from Phil who said, "I'm sorry to tell you that you are out." After a dramatic pause, Phil added to the crestfallen detectives, "Out in the cold because this is a non-elimination leg." Louie & Michael broke out in big smiles, very appreciative of having a second chance. Michael simply said, "We live to fight another day."
