Teams returned to Bogs Gard Farm in Sweden, site of the one of the most unforgettable Roadblocks in Race history that eliminated Lena & Kristy. This time around, brothers Sam & Dan struggled for hours, but father and son Gary & Matt came in last place.

ALL FILLED UP

Departing the Pit Stop in first place at 9:33pm, brothers Sam & Dan excitedly ripped open their clue instructing them to fly 700 miles to Stockholm, Sweden. When they landed, they had to travel by train and ferry to the Tivoli Grona Lund Amusement Park and find the ride known as the Fritt Fall.

Arriving at a deserted Schiphol Airport just after midnight, Sam & Dan along with dating couple Meghan & Cheyne found two KLM flights to Stockholm, one departing at 6:55am and the other at 9:25am. With the KLM counter not opening until 5:30am, all five teams made it to the airport and gathered in line hoping to book seats on the earlier flight. When the counter opened, the first three teams, Sam & Dan, Meghan & Cheyne, and Globetrotters Flight Time & Big Easy, all purchased tickets on the 6:55am flight. However, when father and son Gary & Matt and married couple Brian & Ericka stepped up to the counter, the 6:55 flight was now fully booked. Resigning themselves to a two and a half hour deficit on the lead teams before even landing in Stockholm, they both bought tickets on the 9:25am flight. Gary simply said, "Not good at all. We got our work cut out for us today."

AN EARLY LEAD

Landing in Stockholm, Sweden, Sam & Dan and Meghan & Cheyne got a huge advantage over Flight Time & Big Easy when the Globetrotters couldn’t purchase tickets at the automated machine fast enough to make the same train as the brothers and dating couple. Getting on the next available train, a frustrated Flight Time said, "We got some ground to make up." On the increased competition in the race, Sam commented, "The Globetrotters are definitely our rivals at this point. They are the other all-male team. They’re very athletic so they do pose a huge threat to us."

Approaching the Tivoli Grona Lund Amusement Park from a ferry, Sam & Dan and Meghan & Cheyne marveled at the potential thrills from the myriad rides and roller coasters that awaited them. Reaching the shore, they ran off the ferry and found their next clue inside of the park at the Fritt Fall. Ripping it open, they discovered that one team member had to ride the Fritt Fall. While riding, they had to spot an arrow pointing to the location of their next clue which was visible for only 15 seconds before the ride plunged 24 stories in less than 3 seconds. When they thought they knew the location of their next clue, they had to go find it in the park.

RIDING HIGH

Sam and Cheyne buckled into their seats on the Fritt Fall and then ascended to the frightening height of 24 stories overlooking the park. Splitting up the task of searching, Sam scanned the left side of the park while Cheyne scoured the right side. Before the gut-busting plunge began, Sam spotted the arrow as Dan and Meghan high-fived his success below. As soon as the Fritt Fall began its drop, Cheyne and Sam screamed in enjoyment and continued making noise all the way to the bottom. After getting out of his seat, Sam gushed, "That was so wicked!"

The two teams continued to work together as they ran through the amusement park to where the arrow pointed. Opening their next clue, they discovered they had to take part in a carnival game of Roaming Gnome Ring Toss. In this game, teams had to toss a ring onto one of the many giant red cone hats before them. If the hat they landed a ring on had a gnome hiding underneath, the game attendant would hand them a Travelocity Roaming Gnome containing their next clue.

After missing a few hats, both teams soon steadied their aim and landed rings on hats that had gnomes underneath. On the bottom of the gnomes was their next Detour with the choice of Nobel Dynamite and Viking Alphabet. In Nobel Dynamite, teams had to create sandbags to create a protective bunker in a rock quarry. Once they were protected, they would set off an enormous explosion, thanks to the Swedish inventor of dynamite Alfred Nobel, which would unearth a box containing their next clue. In Viking Alphabet, teams had to decode a message using ancient Viking runes. Once they solved the message, they would receive their next clue.

As Meghan & Cheyne and Sam & Dan drove off to make a big explosion with dynamite, the second plane carrying father and son Gary & Matt and married couple Brian & Ericka touched down in Stockholm. Knowing they were hours behind the other teams, Brian & Ericka got an early advantage at the train platform by buying tickets and jumping on a departing train ahead of last place Gary & Matt. Seeing the train leave without him and his son, a dejected Gary said, "We’re gonna be toast."

HAVING A BLAST

Because Meghan & Cheyne and Sam & Dan stopped to ask a taxi driver to assistance, Flight Time & Big Easy, with no navigation problems, arrived at the rock quarry only moments behind the other teams. Seeing the Globetrotters pull up, Dan snidely quipped, "Did your fans help you get here?" Big Easy retorted, "Our feelings are hurt. Now we’re about to blow y’all up."

After donning work boots, safety helmets, and protection for their ears, the three teams ran into the rock quarry to their respective bunkers. With a massive pile of sand in the center of the quarry for their use, the teams grabbed shovels and began filling bags for shelter from the impending explosion. Dan came up with the idea of using bare hands to guide sand into the bags instead of using the slower method of the shovel, and he quietly told his brother to follow that method. The brothers quickly gained an advantage over Meghan & Cheyne and the Globetrotters, who continued to use their shovels, and finished their bunker of sandbags first.

Sam & Dan connected the wires to their explosive device, waited for the all-clear warning, and then pushed down the trigger to set off a massive explosion that sent a huge black cloud into the air and caused pieces of rock to rain down to the ground. After the smoke cleared, the brothers ran to the explosion site and found a metal box sticking out of the freshly cleared ground. Opening the box, the pair found a clue instructing them to drive to Bogs Gard Farm, the site of one of the most infamous and daunting challenges in Amazing Race history.

Meghan & Cheyne compounded their problems with the sandbags by arguing over the best way to fill them. Meghan insisted it would be better for both of them to work on the same bag, with one person holding it open while the other scoops in the sand. Cheyne thought that method was inefficient and that each of them should fill their own bags, saying, "It’s stupid to do one at a time." An exasperated Meghan replied, "You’re not working with me." When Cheyne walked off to start stacking bags, a helpless Meghan moaned, "Cheyne, encourage me. Please help me." After setting off their explosion in third place, the dating couple returned to their car where Meghan complained, "That was awful teamwork. I asked Cheyne like 5,000 times to work with me." When Cheyne told Meghan that she shouldn’t dwell on a task that already passed, Meghan retorted, "You just didn’t even listen to me the whole time!"

SWITCHBACK STRESS

Arriving at Bogs Gard Farm in first place, brothers Sam & Dan ran past a familiar farm house to a sprawling field of hay bales and their next Road Block. In it, one team member had to participate in an Amazing Race Switchback by performing one of the most unforgettable Roadblocks in race history. A seemingly simple task of unrolling hay bales to search for a clue caused one team, Lena & Christy, to struggle for nearly ten hours, unrolling one hundred hay bales and resulted in their elimination. Now, teams faced the same challenge and had to find one of only seven race flags hidden among 186 hay bales to avoid the same fate. This time around the farm was also the Pit Stop for this leg of the race.

Sam ran into the field but didn’t understand how to unroll the hay bales. After grudgingly taking advice from a screaming Dan on how to do it, Sam didn’t appreciate hearing from his brother how long it took Lena & Kristy to do this task. When Dan announced that Meghan & Cheyne arrived, Sam asked his brother to shut up. The unsolicited advice from Dan continued, causing Sam to ask his brother not to talk for ten minutes.

From the beginning, Meghan struggled to move the massive bales of hay to unroll them, saying, "This is the worst thing I’ve even done in my whole life." As she continued to unroll bale after bale, Meghan began to tire, unsure of how long she could keep this up. Her biggest concern was seeing Brian & Ericka and Gary & Matt, who unbeknownst to Meghan both finished the Detour, show up before she found a flag.

When the Globetrotters arrived, Big Easy ran into the field with the goal of finding a flag first to give his partner Flight Time a birthday present. Even the tall and massive Big Easy grunted and groaned as he upended and pushed the huge hay bales. Watching his partner struggle, Flight Time said, "Oh man, this is a nightmare." Even with the daunting task before him, Big Easy kept his sense of humor, quipping, "We had no hay in the projects."

Seeing Sam pilfer through an already unrolled hay bale, Dan couldn’t hold his tongue and began to shout at his brother to move onto a new one, saying, "We’re going to be here all day if you do that. Stop doing that!" At this point, Sam decided words wouldn’t suffice and flipped Dan off, adding, "He’s a moron. What he doesn’t realize is that I stopped listening to him about ten years ago."

BIRTHDAY PRESENT

As Brian & Ericka and Gary & Matt pulled into Bogs Gard Farm, Meghan, Big Easy, and Sam all kept unrolling bales hoping each one would be their last. Kicking through his freshly unrolled bale, Big Easy looked down and saw a yellow and red flag suddenly appear. Flight Time shouted, "That’s what I’m talking about! It’s my birthday!" Sam sniped, "They’re the luckiest team in the history of the race. Why wouldn’t they find the first one?" Running to the mat, Flight Time & Big Easy claimed first place and a trip for two from Travelocity to Turks and Caicos. Birthday boy Flight Time said, "This is the cake and the icing on the cake."

The arrival of Brian & Ericka and Gary & Matt sent Meghan into a tailspin. She began to cry, saying, "It’s so hard. I’ve been here for two hours!" When Cheyne asked if she was all right, Meghan responded, "No! I can’t do this anymore!" After getting her composure back, with the help of a calming Cheyne, soothing her from the sidelines, Meghan continued to unroll bales, saying, "It sucks that the other teams just got here."

BICKERING BROTHERS

The fighting between Sam & Dan continued as Sam refused to take advice from his brother, shouting, "Oh my gosh! I am going to kill my brother!" When Brian told Dan that the task was harder than it looked, Dan finally quieted down, adding, "It was kind of an epiphany. I was yelling at him over hay. I probably should’ve shut my mouth from the very beginning."

After finally finding a flag, Meghan decided to have some fun by pretending she was quitting as she ran off the field, shouting, "I can’t do it any more!" When she got to Cheyne, she pulled the flag out of her pocket and said, "Let’s go." An ecstatic Cheyne told Phil, "I’m so happy that she’s my partner in this. I’m so happy that she’s my partner for life."

When Brian found a flag to claim third place with Ericka, a dispirited Sam said, "I’m never going to find one." He and Gary continued their search through bales knowing that whoever found it last could be eliminated. With his brother offering encouraging words rather than criticism, Sam, the racer who spent the most total time in the field, finally found a flag. On the mat, Dan began to cry over his behavior towards Sam all afternoon, sobbing, "I was being such a jerk, yelling at him. There’s no reason to do that. I’m not proud of myself today." However, later the brothers looked at the experience more positively, saying, "We’re not going to be angels to each other from here on out, but our brotherly bond is stronger than any argument."

After hours in the field a very determined Gary finally found a flag, and he and Matt walked to Phil in last place. The pair smiled when they learned that this was a non-elimination leg and they were still in the race. Even knowing they had to face a Speed Bump in the next leg, the father and son kept their spirits high. Matt said, "My dad is Superman. This guy never gives up." Gary added, "We’re not going to give up. We’re going to take it to the limit."
