Lenny Kravitz's Character in 'Precious' Specifically Written for Him
Movie

After rejecting an offer to play a major role in 'Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire' due to scheduling conflict, rocker Lenny Kravitz has signed up Lee Daniels' two more films.

AceShowbiz - Filmmaker Lee Daniels was so determined to include Lenny Kravitz in Precious - he build a role in the movie especially for the rocker. Daniels approached the singer about appearing in his critically-acclaimed new picture, "Precious: Based on the Novel PUSH by Sapphire", but the star had to turn down the offer because he was tied up on tour.

The director insisted on including Kravitz, so he built up a small role to give the rocker a chance to show off his acting skills. Kravitz says, "He (Daniels) said he'd been looking for me. I was out on a long tour and couldn't accept a major film role. The compromise was (my character) Nurse John. This was a way for Lee and I to feel each other out. The character only makes a fleeting appearance in the book, but Lee built the role for me. I think it was a good idea to have one positive male role model in Precious' miserable life."

And the musician admits he formed a close bond with Daniels while shooting his role, and has signed up to appear in two more of his movies. He adds, "Lee and I have grown close as friends and as creative collaborators. I'm doing two more films with him."
