AceShowbiz - Exciting news for fans of the long-running ABC soap General Hospital: the original Ethan Lovett is set to make a comeback, with actor Nathan Parsons reprising the role. Notably, Parsons now goes by the name Nathan Dean professionally.
Nathan Parsons originally portrayed Ethan Lovett, the son of Holly Sutton (played by Emma Samms) and Luke Spencer (played by Anthony Geary), from 2009 through 2012. Over the years, he has returned several times for special story arcs and milestones on the show.
For instance, Parsons briefly reprised Ethan in 2013 to help celebrate the soap’s 50th anniversary. He returned again in 2015 during Luke Spencer’s farewell storyline after Anthony Geary retired from the role. In 2020, Ethan appeared for a series of episodes, including a storyline set in Monte Carlo alongside friends Robert Scorpio (Tristan Rogers) and Olivia Quartermaine (Lisa LoCicero).
After Parsons’ last appearance, the role of Ethan was recast in 2023 with actor James Ryan for a handful of episodes, but the character has been absent from the canvas since then. Now, reports suggest that fans should anticipate Ethan’s return to Port Charles this coming April.
While Ethan’s father, Luke Spencer, passed away in 2022, and his mother Holly remains in hiding with Robert Scorpio, there are still several family connections awaiting him in town. This includes his half-sister Sasha Gilmore (Sofia Mattsson) and her baby daughter Daisy Gilmore (Levi Clark Coughlin). Most notably, Ethan’s younger sister Lulu Spencer (Alexa Havins Bruening) has yet to reunite with him since waking from a coma.
Additionally, Ethan’s ex and friend Kristina Corinthos-Davis (Kate Mansi) along with her father, mob boss Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), may have interesting reactions to his return. These relationships are expected to add depth to upcoming storylines.
Frank Valentini, the executive producer of General Hospital, commented on the return of the original Ethan, saying, “We have a great story planned - with, of course, a few twists along the way.”
Interestingly, when Parsons first auditioned for the show, he read for the role of Dante Falconeri, which ultimately went to Dominic Zamprogna. However, Parsons impressed casting director Mark Teschner so much that the character Ethan was created specifically for him. Parsons made his debut on the soap on January 30, 2009.
As the April return approaches, General Hospital viewers are eager to see what circumstances will bring Ethan Lovett back to Port Charles and what kind of drama he will stir up once he arrives. For the latest updates, spoilers, and news on General Hospital, be sure to stay tuned to CDL’s coverage.
