AceShowbiz - Los Angeles is set to honor the late rapper Nipsey Hussle with a dedicated intersection bearing his name. This weekend, the corner of Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson Avenue will be officially renamed Nipsey Hussle Square, commemorating his lasting impact on the city, entrepreneurial drive, and strong ties to his community.
According to ABC7, the street sign unveiling will take place on Saturday during a ceremony attended by Nipsey Hussle's brother and business partner, Blacc Sam, alongside prominent local figures including L.A. City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, councilmember Heather Hutt, and California State Assemblymember Isaac Bryan.
This particular intersection is deeply meaningful as it is near a plaza purchased by Nipsey Hussle shortly before his tragic death in early 2019. That plaza is home to the Neighborhood Nip Foundation, an organization he established to give back to his neighborhood.
The location also holds cultural significance as it is referenced in Nipsey Hussle's music, most notably in his 2013 track “Crenshaw and Slauson (True Story),” further cementing the area’s importance in his artistic legacy.
Last summer, the nearby Hyde Park Metro station, positioned opposite the intersection, was temporarily renamed in honor of Nipsey Hussle to celebrate what would have been his 40th birthday. Zoe Zeigler, Metro’s executive officer of Marketing, explained that this effort was a true partnership made possible by the family's outreach, recognizing his integral role in the community.
Fans also have something to anticipate this year with the announcement of Nipsey Hussle’s first posthumous album. His Marathon Clothing brand revealed plans for a collaborative project titled Prolific, created with close associate Bino Rideaux and scheduled for release this summer.
The announcement came with the release of the lead single “Reckless,” produced by the Los Angeles-based duo Mike & Keys, who were instrumental in producing much of Nipsey Hussle's final album, Victory Lap.
This new project arrives over six years after Nipsey Hussle was fatally shot outside his Marathon Clothing store in South Los Angeles at age 33. His killer, Eric Holder, is currently serving a 60-year prison sentence after being convicted of first-degree murder.
