AceShowbiz - Gerry Turner, the 72-year-old star of "The Golden Bachelor", has revealed his diagnosis of Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia, a slow-growing "bone marrow cancer." The diagnosis came as a shock after visiting an orthopedic surgeon for a recurring shoulder injury. "It was like 10 tons of concrete were just dropped on me," Turner says.
Turner was initially in denial about his fate, but he has since adopted the philosophy of "Live Like You're Dying" to make the most of his time remaining. "I've gotten to the point where I can be somewhat comfortable with it," he says.
The diagnosis has prompted Turner to reassess his priorities and spend more time with his daughters, son-in-laws, and granddaughters. He explains, "I wanted my life to continue on as normal as possible, and that led me to believing that as normal as possible more meant spending time with my family."
Despite his initial denial, Turner has found strength in his loved ones. "The importance of finding the way with Theresa was still there, but it became less of a priority," he says, referring to his ex-wife, Theresa Nist.
Nist, who is heartbroken by Turner's diagnosis, hopes that he will "live a long and healthy, prosperous life" and "be so happy." She adds, "He's a very positive person and I am too, and I know that he will do the best that he can to make this a positive experience."
Turner's diagnosis is a reminder to live life to the fullest. "I'm going to pack as much fun as I possibly can into my life and enjoy every moment. And when I'm gone, I'm gone, but I'm not going to have regrets," he says.
Turner's story highlights the power of positivity and the importance of cherishing every moment, especially in the face of adversity.
