AceShowbiz - Netflix has erworben the global streaming rights to the Israeli drama series "Bad Boy" from Ron Leshem and Hagar Ben-Asher. The eight-part series is inspired by a true story and follows Dean, a young man who is held in a cruel juvenile detention facility where he befriends a teenager imprisoned for murder. Twenty years later, Dean has become a successful comedian and is desperate to keep his youthful indiscretions a secret.
Leshem serves as showrunner on the series, which is written and directed by Ben-Asher. Daniel Chen, Havtamo Farda, and Guy Manster star.
"Bad Boy" was the first international co-production deal for North Road, which is a co-studio with Israeli outfit Sipur. Hot and Tedy Productions are also producers on the project.
Leshem originally unveiled the series in March 2023, citing its potential to become "the next Euphoria." He drew inspiration from his time as an investigative journalist when he covered a story in a juvenile prison.
The series will join Netflix Israel's growing library of Israeli content, including "Unorthodox", "Shtisel" and "Bros".
Global streaming of "Bad Boy" is expected to begin in 2025, following its initial run on the Israeli channel HOT in early 2024. The series will launch in 190 Netflix territories worldwide.
