AceShowbiz - Jason Sudeikis has finally responded to critics who did not appreciate the third season of the popular Apple TV+ series "Ted Lasso." Citing opinions from Jeremy Egner's recent book, "Believe: The Untold Story Behind Ted Lasso, the Show That Kicked Its Way Into Our Hearts," the show's co-creator had a lot to say about audience expectations and engagement.
Sudeikis addressed critics who said Season 3 was both bloated and overextended with too many diffused storylines. "Much like live theater, the show, especially Season 3, was asking the audience to be an active participant," explained Sudeikis. "Some people want to do that, some people don't. Some people want to judge - they don't want to be curious."
He emphasized that the driving force behind the show was perhaps lost on some viewers who quickly pointed out flaws without fully engaging with the content.
"I'll never understand people who will go on talking about something so brazenly that they, in my opinion, clearly don't understand," Sudeikis remarked. "And God bless 'em for it; it's not their fault. They don't have imaginations and they're not open to the experience of what it's like to have one."
Sudeikis also pointed out that despite the varied storylines, the characters achieved significant growth and transformations by the end of Season 3. "Everybody's in better shape than when they started," he said, comparing the narrative to good scouting practice. "Like a good Boy or Girl Scout at a campsite, we left it better than we found it. And if you don't see that in that show, then I don't know what show you're watching."
The future of "Ted Lasso" remains undetermined, though there were indications as of August that a fourth season might be in the works. Warner Bros. Television had picked up options on original cast members Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein, and Jeremy Swift. Although the cast expressed eagerness to reprise their roles, no official comments have been made by Warner Bros. Television or Apple TV+ on the prospect of a new season.
"Ted Lasso" has already secured its legacy, amassing 13 Emmy Awards during its original three-season run. This includes back-to-back Outstanding Comedy Series trophies and multiple acting awards for Sudeikis, Goldstein, and Waddingham.
As the audience eagerly awaits any news on the show's continuation, one thing is clear: Sudeikis remains steadfast in his vision for "Ted Lasso," encouraging viewers to remain curious and engaged.
