AceShowbiz - PGA Tour winner Grayson Murray's tragic passing has reportedly been attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning. Days after his family confirmed his death as a suicide, further details have emerged.
On Saturday morning, May 26, Murray had reportedly left his Land Rover running in his garage while he went upstairs to the master bedroom. The exhaust gases from the car filled the three-story townhouse, triggering a carbon monoxide alarm.
Locals in Palm Beach Gardens contacted authorities to Murray's $800,000 home around 11 AM after the alarm went off. Police are still conducting an investigation into the exact circumstances of Murray's death.
Prior to his passing, the 30-year-old golfer had withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge, citing an illness. His death left the PGA Tour community devastated.
"We were devastated to learn - and are heartbroken to share - that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words," PGA Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement on Saturday. "The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.
Murray had been vocal about his struggles with anxiety, depression, and alcohol abuse. "Yes, I would drink during tournament weeks," he revealed after winning the Sony Open. "It was my outlet. I thought I was invincible coming out here as a 22-year-old, winning as a rookie, played three days hungover when I won."
The golfer's father and mother, Eric and Terry Murray, expressed their devastation in a statement. "We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It's surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It's a nightmare," they said.
As the community mourns the loss of Grayson Murray, his life's highs and lows serve as a poignant reminder of the pressures faced by young athletes and the need for mental health support and understanding.
