Clapping back at critics suggesting she's too 'thin' and 'skinny,' the 'Underworld' actress details her prolonged grief caused by recent losses and her health issues that led to recent hospitalization.

AceShowbiz - Kate Beckinsale has gotten candid about her recent illness and mental health condition after she was criticized for her apparent weight loss. The 50-year-old disclosed the cause of her recent hospitalization and her prolonged grief in response to body-shaming comments on her latest social media post.

On Saturday, May 25, the actress made use of her Instagram page to share a video from behind the scenes of her forthcoming 1990s-based film "Stolen Girl". In the footage, she rocked a slew of retro-styled fits and hairstyles while goofing around in her trailer.

"Back to the '90's on our movie 'Stolen Girl'," she wrote in the caption. "The actual real '90s for me involved cutting my own hair with kitchen scissors and wearing my my brother's pyjamas and school jumper and my steel toecapped Dr Martens literally everywhere ,covered in Boots translucent loose powder like some one attacked me with a bag of flour. So, a redo."

While Kate looked excited and ready to be back to work and film her new movie, some naysayers chose to focus on her physical appearance. "Sorry to say this Kate, but you do look a bit thin," one person wrote. "You always striked a great balance ... But when your cheekbones start to show, the balance is lost ..."

Noticing the negative comment, Kate quickly hit back as saying, "I nursed my [stepdad] to his death early this year. My mum also has stuff going on. I am adjusting to watching two fathers die, one when I was 5, one in January of this year."

"I lost my soulmate cat of almost 19 years, also last year," she continued, before detailing her recent health issues, "I spent six weeks in hospital due to copiously vomiting blood from a [Mallory-Weiss tear] caused by the stress of a whole year ripping a hole between my [esophagus] and stomach."

The "Pearl Harbor" star said she also "experienced a severe flare of [her] mast cell disease," which is "mitigated by stress, shock and grief." She added, "That's what I am prepared to disclose that has contributed to some weight loss. What you think of my appearance and how I should look, independently of any circumstances in my life and my family's is not important."

"I am trying to survive what feel like unbearable losses, reactivated PTSD from discovering my very young father's almost dead body as a very young child alone in the night, and working to support the family I have left," she fumed, before calling out the critic for feeling the need "to bully females about their appearance."

She added, "The fact you fancy girls who are heavier than I am does not feature in things that are important or relevant," she wrote. "I don't care what your taste in women is. I care that you think any of us need to be apprised of it ... Do better."

When another critic left a comment that read, "Please eat something. I love you, I'm very worried with your skinny look," Kate also replied, "Enough."

Seeing the negative comments, others have come to Kate's defense with one saying, "So many judgemental people commenting shesh. Kate, you look amazing, x." Another fan penned, "FFS people, she's fine. And, it's not up to anyone else what size she is, or anyone else. I'm always amazed by Kate's fitness which is far more important than anything else. It inspires me."

Kate returned home after her weeks-long hospitalization in April. At the time, the actress gave an update to her fans by sharing photos of her with her dog at home. Giving a clue to her mystery illness, she wore a shirt emblazoned with the words "Tummy Troubles Survivor," suggesting that her recent hospitalization might be due to stomach-related issue.

Earlier this year, the British beauty mourned the death of her stepfather, who passed away from a brief illness in January. Her biological dad Richard Beckinsale died when she was a child.
