The beauty pageant contestant suffered heavy bleeding and a heart attack after her tonsillectomy operation and was left in a coma for two months before she passed away at age 27.

AceShowbiz - A Brazilian beauty queen has tragically passed away at a young age. Gleycy Correia, who was crowned Miss United Continents Brazil in 2018, died several months after undergoing a routine tonsil surgery.

The news of her passing was shared via her Instagram Story on Monday, June 20. Correia, from Macae, southeast Brazil, had a surgery to remove her tonsils in late March. She suffered heavy bleeding and a heart attack after her tonsillectomy operation.

She was left in a coma for two months following the cardiac arrest in April. She died in a private clinic on Monday. She was only 27 years old.

Her family priest Lidiane Alves Oliviera told Daily Mail, "She had surgery to remove her tonsils and after five days at home, she had a hemorrhage. She went to Unimed and had a cardiac arrest on 4th April and since then she was in a coma, with no neurological activity. Today she passed away."

Her body was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute of Macae for an autopsy.

Pastor Jak Abreu, who knows Correia's family, wrote on social media that her relatives believe that there was medical malpractice during the operation. He also paid tribute to the beauty queen, "God chose this day to collect our princess. We know that she will be greatly missed, but she will now be brightening the sky with her smile.."

"She fulfilled her purpose and left her legacy of love in us!" he added. "We ask your prayers for your family and friends so that the Holy Spirit may swallow this difficult moment with comfort!"

A spokesperson for the Miss United Continents Organization released a statement, describing Correia as a "beautiful young lady with such joy for life." The statement continued to read, "I want to extend my most sincere condolences to her family and to his mentor Henrique Fontes who gave us the gift of knowing a beautiful, smart and sweet girl who leaves with us the happiest memories that will ever be kept in this organization."
